I have decided to take the plunge more because I am a gadget guy than need one.
a quick questions if any of you know

has anyone had a chance to try the new blackberry 7100r a buddy of mine who works for rogers says it is the best one for someone like me who wants it more for the phone/ browsing aspect of it. I will be using it for email as well but not as much as the other 2

any other tips you could throw this way would be great, by the way I also just found out that you can use the blackberry to check your hotmail too.

Oh well more money wasted but it looks like a fun toy

It's awesome (about $200 down here), AIM works well on it, clear screen, Bluetooth enabled (for those geeky headsets), was distracting my 4yr old in Brookstone over the weekend (as the girls shopped for clothes), they had a Bluetooth wireless speakerphone you attach to your visor, runs on batteries - awesome idea.

Has a funky keyboard (two letters per key) and cool software that figures out what you are typing - should work well on TERB - wonder what DATY would come out as....(hair in tooth no doubt ;-)

If this is your first Blackberry you're about to find out why they are called "crackberries" - my wife hid mine over Christmas.... LOL

OK, I'm techologically challenged.
Can someone in 20 words or less tell me what this thing does??
And why I should need it??

Have all your email sent to it and set up a rule to delete it every x days (archive by using save on the bb and your PC)

A Blackberry is a wireless email device married with a cellphone and Outlook compatable PIM - an electronic swiss army knife.

The magic (crack part) is that emails are PUSHED to you meaning it will just show up on the bb automatically, no slow mobile network login.

I travel and I'd never live without one. I'm typing this on my bb on the couch at home.

Do you have a colour model? Personally, I find it very difficult to surf never mind replying on TERB via my BB?

Have had three BB's over the pass 2 years, they are so well liked they keep getting stolen. Never had a problem with them other than the mobile is limited by the service provider. Rogers has limited reception in some areas.

They are great for both business and pleasure. But using it for email is like trying to pick fly shit out of pepper. The keyboard and stylus both suck.

I have a black and white model, I like the 5 day battery life (don't even bother travel with a charger anymore).

I wrote all my evening posts today on my blackberry.

The Blackberry prayer (looks like you are praying with both hands together and looking down) i.e. typing with my thumbs is a learned skill. No spell check on the BB, unfortunately for me.

I have a 7750 from Bell and a 7100 from Rogers. On the whole I prefer the 7750.

The 7750 is an email first, phone second device. As such the screen and keyboard are bigger and accomodate typing and reading much better than the 7100.

The 7100 is phone first, email second. As such is has a form factor that works much better as a phone. It's easier to dial a call on the 7100. The colour screen is much better on the 7100 though in terms of clarity and viewing under varying light conditions.

I actually don't use a cell phone all that much - less than 200min per month so I'm much better suited to the 7750. For our corporate use we are starting to push much more data to the devices so the 7750 once again fits our needs better.

As a consumer-grade device (i.e. Not corporate) I'd say the 7100 is better.

well i took the plunge today, i picked up the 7290 over the 7100, it is more user friendly, i couldn't get over the 7100 typing just like a cell phone.

I will report back later

and thanks to everyone for the help
