I'm like CityTV - EVERYWHERE
weeeeee an anime thread!

*geek mode on*
1. i would like to add Family Guy to the list of great toons out now (even though i've just started watching it)

2. with all this nostalgia talk, anyone remember: Silverhawks? Force Five? Grandizer? Voltron 2 & 3 (with like 15 cars/planes - but i'm not sure if there's one in between)

3. i believe the new x-men series is based off the x-men unlimited comics?

4. what's an anime thread without the mention of Akira? Cowboy Bebop?

Hey Hung, what took you so long. In response to some of your points. Yes, i have seen all those old animes and even more, i just don't know what their english names are. And yes we have disscused about akira and cowboybeebop at another thread in the movies (non-adult) section under AKIRA.

Which brings up an interesting point, as far as i know there were two voltrons. One was the five lions (the original i guess) and the ones with like ten to fifteen ships. What was up with that? Why were there two versions?

Love Family Guy.
Unfortunatly I've seen them all and you can only watch so many of them.
Heard they might be releasing new ones, hope the rumours are true.

Hung Wei Lo!!!
Don't think the X-Men series is based on X-Men Unlimited. Unlimited seems to be short stories of the X-Men in the comic book Marvel Universe.

Sinestro!!!
Do you know if Ghost in the Shell 2 is gonna be subtitled or dubbed?

Hung…
Thanks for the link to the Force Five page, man! Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the mornings I’d spend in front of the t.v. before school, eating my cereal and watching Grandizer, or Gaiking, or the Starvengers on CFMT. That, and Battle of the Planets on Saturday mornings were my first exposure to anime. Ahhhh, the good old days…

Manji…
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. In answer to your question: none of the characters in the trailer are speaking; it’s just a spectacular montage with an english voice-over teasing us with details about the plot. If previous experience is any indicator, though (i.e. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away), I’m guessing that any domestic release of the movie will be dubbed. I’m not too worried, though; I may prefer subbed anime, but I had no complaints about the dubbed version of the first GITS…

Spawn!!
Didn't like it.
The art was a real turn off.
I think anime has spoiled me in that I expect some high quality animation every time.

The animation from Macfralane's animation company has not impressed me at all.
The Spawn Series.
That Pearl Jam video.
That movie with the Catholic school kids that his animation interspersed within the film.
They were all lacking.

Yeah, I forgot about Spriggin.
Was just going through my anime collection, and there it was.

Speaking of weed, incognito
Is it just me, or is smoking weed and reading subtitles just something that should not mix?
Everytime I smoke a joint and try to read subtitles, I always get lost. My mind starts to wander. That's why I actually prefer dubbing; for the simple reason it is easier to pay attention and keep track of what's going in a moive/anime when you're high.

True but something gets lost in translation. Plus its a different kind of emotional content because of a different culture, if you get my meaning. When i smoke weed, i pay more attention to the movie cause i get soooo into it. Different strokes i guess.

BTW guys, i'm not sure if i asked this before but when is the comic/anime convention hitting town. I went to one a few years ago and it was lame. The best part was seeing Tracey Lords. I hope it got better.

That's true!!!
I think I have A.D.D. and being high just makes it worse. My mind wanders when I have to read subtitles. Or I start concentrating on the subtitles and the Japanese phrases and forget about the actual animation!!

I only went to one convention. It was like ten years ago.
It was an anime convention, supposedly the first one in Toronto.
"Anime North"
It was okay, but what pissed me off is that I ordered two "Anime North" shirts (just to support the cause) and I never got them.
What kind of crap is that!?!
Never went to an anime convention again!! (or any other convention for that matter).
