whether the cons' foul play made a difference or not, the very-likely fact that the cons played dirty (well we already know they played dirty re. campaign budget) should be enough to make all of us (regardless of our political leanings) stand up and take notice.
Why can't people seem to see clearly beyond their political affiliations when stuff is obviously f'd. I lose respect for people's arguments when they try to defend parties to the death when the party these people are defending obviously did wrong.
I remember adscam - i had friends who worked for the Liberals at that time. Many Liberal supporters walked away despite that issue being nothing compared to the list of Conservative bs that's occurred just in the past few months. Yet Conservatives will support their party till their last breath - despite how ridiculous it looks from the other side....
argh
Remember the oerlikon helicopters scandal in Mulroney's first term. The press outside Quebec was all agog that someone in power would have been caught with his hands in the cookie jar. The Quebec press attitude was "shucks, you got caught. Better Luck next time."
Mulroney accepted a brown paper bag of cash. Is he sitting in jail while we sit on his Airbus'?
Harper could be caught buggering little boys (since his wife long ago gave up accepting his Reform spunk) and the Reform supporters here would not see anything wrong.
What I would like to see:
1. Absolutely no advertising between elections. Govt ads detailing programs would be highly controlled.
2. Ban on all personal attack ads. We are rapidly degenerating into Americans as the Reform party rolls out more and more Chretien crooked mouth type ads
3. Outlaw robocall of all types. All calls must be made from unblocked phones. I worked as an election volunteer and spent election day personal calling voters. It is not an easy thing to do.
