This can't be good news for Harry and Nancy..... will they make their party walk the plank?

Americans Still Leaning Against Healthcare Legislation

Majority disapprove of Obama’s handling of the issue

by Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans currently tilt against Congress' passing healthcare legislation, with 49% saying they would advise their member to vote against a bill (or they lean that way) and 44% saying they would advocate a vote in favor of the bill (or lean toward advising a yes vote).

.......

Republicans are overwhelmingly opposed to new healthcare legislation -- 86% would advise their member of Congress to vote against it, while 12% would want their member to support it. Democrats, on the other hand, favor it by a 76% to 17% margin. Independents oppose passage of a bill by 53% to 37%.

Ok, so ...............................................

How many Americans were undecided? I read 22%. Or how many don't want to let pollster know what they think? With that many undecided, ranging from 29-22% over time, the figures don't carry too much weight

You have a habit of rationalizing away facts you don't like.......

Having a problem with the plan is way different than being against it, as it's a work in progress and far from final, but if 25% of the people that I asked for their opinion/solution said nothing, I'd would be really unsure what the right answer or solution is.

I have no doubt that the final draft will be a far cry from the initial offer from both sides. I'm of the opinion that at least get something down on paper and start with that.

What really ticks me off is that the opposition is hell bent to see Obama outright fail, because he's one of them, and not work with him to make a better system. Them being black, Democrat, government or just not us. There is no argument from the clear rational thinkers that the system is broken and time is running out. The polarity of the US political system just doesn't allow for simple compromises.

and so ........

This doesn't make my observations wrong. Maybe my points simply put the facts in a better perspective.
If you read the article that number is declining (11% in the last month) and given that the bill is 2,000 pages how could a large segment not be unsure...... you should also look at how the independents are breaking... this is why Pelosi only had 5 votes to spare in a house where she has a massive majority (for another year at least).

The bill could be half the size if it was allowed to be simple but everyone is looking for their tags, earmarks, 30 pieces of silver, or outright bribe to get heir vote and that takes a lot of fancy wordage to keep hidden.

I've read the article more than once and I'm still looking for your reference of 11%.

Fromm the article;

'However, opinion on the issue is far from settled. When initially asked about their preferred course of action on healthcare legislation, 22% of Americans say they do not yet have an opinion on the matter (although 15% subsequently provide an opinion when asked if they lean one way or the other). The percentage with no opinion on the initial question has fluctuated since August, but has never been lower than the current 22% figure.'

The $100 Million Health Care Vote?
November 19, 2009 3:03 PM

ABC News' Jonathan Karl reports:

What does it take to get a wavering senator to vote for health care reform?

Here’s a case study.

On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”

The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”

I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.

In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)

Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.

How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.

Ah, the parliament of whores......

The other question I would ask is if the bill is 2000 pages long , how many congress critters can actually make an informed vote? My definition of an informed vote would include reading the bill and being able to discuss the issues in it intelligently.

The fairy god senators will have their shot at it and after everything is said and done the final bill will be 5000 pages long and have enough pork in it to keep the gumbo soup going for a couple of hundred years.

Lets start a pool on the number of pages for te final version my guestimate 5000 pages
