Couldn't he have just touched the side of the blade to make it stop, instead of the toothy part??
yes, but it would have been far less dramatic that way. What made me wonder was that he put his finger in very very slowly, so all he felt was a "buzz" (the tips of the few teeth that contacted his finger I guess).... wonder how much damage you would sustain if you were feeding thin stock at the usual speed, or - god forbid - tripped and flung your hand straight into it. Probably get a cut anyways (still infinitely better than chopping it off of course)
