[Updated at 3:48 p.m. ET] A jury has partially overturned the conviction of Amanda Knox.

The jury has overturned the murder conviction but upheld the conviction on the defamation charges.

The judge has called for silence in the courtroom as applause erupts.

The jury has also overturned the murder conviction of Raffaelle Sollecito. Both will be free to leave.

Finally, after 4 years in jail, now it's her turn to sue the government for incompetency.

Let's hope there's no appeal.

So if not Amanda Knox, then who did it? Last I looked there is still a dead woman that justice hasn't served.

anyone else getting tired of these murder stories becoming "news"? it seems like every 2 weeks there is some sorta murder trial that CNN and company tries to hang on to, thank goodness for the 500 channel universe and the net, I have no clue who this woman is and what she did or didnt do.

Apparently an innocent womean spent 4 years in jail for a gruesome crime she didn't commit. That is news to most people.

She did owe 3 of those years for the other charges. Although, giving her 3 years and a 22,000 euro fine for defamation when she was probably scared out of her wits by the police into condemning her old boss versus being in the hot seat herself seems a little extreme. Then again, her accusation could have had serious implications for the bar owner.... I'm glad I don't have to make these kind of decisions!

I mean heck.. They already HAVE the murderer behind bars (Rudy Guede)..
OK. So if it's so obvious why didn't they go after him from the beginning?

She claims it was a forced confession. Ie 14 hours, denied food and water, asked to imagine what happened in the apartment, etc. She points the finger at a guy, it turns out to be a false confession, so the prosecutor decided to add a charge of slander as well. The police and prosecutor need a whack in the head.

So, the whole situation is SNAFU.

Considering how she was tricked into making that bogus confession, i wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't tricked into coming up with a name as to whom might have killed Meredith. No lawyer, no water, no food, detained for nearly 16 hours straight & told to come up with a possible scenario of what could have happened, etc....on top of that, she barely knew how to speak italian & the interrogators barely spoke english. Absolutely awful & the whole thing raised red flags as soon as i began finding out some of the details once i got interested in the case & researching it.

This was a set-up from the beginning. Amanda Knox & her young former italian boyfriend were railroaded from the beginning. The lead investigators, which i've nicknamed Abbot & Costello, falsely believed that she & her boyfriend were guilty from the moment they set their eyes on them & then slowly began making a case around them, no matter how foolish & unbelievable (or so i thought) the so-called evidence was. The sex orgy excuse that they used was absolutely mind-boggling & have no idea how they ever came up with that stuff. Maybe they watched too much porn, who knows. But am I surprised? Not after considering who their Prime Minister is (Berlusconi), himself the victim of allegations (which are likely true in his case) of sexual misconduct & stories of sex orgies with legions of prostitutes, etc.

How awful i found that someone like Casey Anthony was presently free while someone like Amanda Knox, who was obviously railroaded with flimsy evidence at best. There wasn't even a realistic motive for them to want Meredith dead. A sex-game gone wrong? Come on! She barely knew her boyfriend for a week & now they'd be into heavy sex games with a girl who wasn't even into that kind of stuff? Baloney!

The only person who murdered Meredith is behind bars: Rudy Guede. The only reason he ever named Amanda Knox & her then-boyfriend as co-conspirators was because the legal authorities told him they'd reduct his sentence in half (or nearly) if he implicated them. Normal people with a conscience likely wouldn't have done this. However, Rudy Guede is a convicted violent murderer & sex offender who has none. He had nothing to lose since he was already in prison for life.

Finally, justice was served!!!

Honestly the Italian justice system must be truly warped. After they had Guede why did they feel it necessary to go after Knox and her boyfriend? Were the prosecutors trying to make a name for themselves? I don't get it.

In Canada, the U.S. or any Common Law Country this case would never have gotten off the ground.

As for the prosecution knowing that their most important evidence had been throughly discredited continuing to argue for a conviction, in most juristictions in North America this could and likely would lead to Bar discipline.
