Am I the only one that doesn’t really get into Christmas?

I have a very close family and now grown kids of my own I’ve always loved Christmas because it’s about family. I’m in the dead space after kids at home and before grandkids. Holidays without kids for me are boring.

I avoid the crowds by shopping online and airports by driving this year. I expect a stress free holiday.

Sometimes it doesn’t feel like a holiday but more a deadline.

Love the slow down at work, family time, nice dinners, time off.

As I am older now with grown ( sort of ) kids, I have come to despise the gift exchange with the extended family.

My view....for the extended family gifts are for when they are kids. They are now adults, married....and we still have to buy for them???

Really hate it and am coming to resent the one family member who insists on continuing the gifts including birthdays....all we do now is exchange gift cards and cash. My kids, and the kids in the extended family, truly don't need anything and basically buy whatever they want whenever they want ( within reason ).

Of course the one family member I am referring to does not work, hasn't worked for 30 years, no kids at home. So lots of time.

Very happy to see on media and with my own eyes that the Christmas tradition is stronger than ever. Many of the celebrants in Toronto are yellow, brown and black people as well as some token white folks.

When I used to run an online business I always worked throughout the holidays and loved it. I felt I was getting ahead in my business while everyone else took time off being unproductive. Working everyday and all holidays was a joy.

But since retiring I love enjoying the festivities of the holidays. I love that Xmas is a magical time of year for children. I love the joyous wholesome goodness of it all. Sometimes I even grow a heart and give bums on the street money. It's surreal.
