All you can eat places downtown

I used to live in States where there were tons of places like this.

Basically, it's like your personal kitchen. You go in, grab what ever you want, pay per item or weight, enjoy and leave. I saved a ton of time as I never ate at home. No grocery shopping, dishes, garbage, cleaning and all that jazz. It wasn't cheap but worth every penny. I can't find places like this in Toronto.

I've been eating out (order off menu style) and trying different places and they all suck. Either the portion sizes are out of whack and I never truly get fed, or if the portion is OK, the meat/carb ratio is incorrect. Sometimes too much meat and not enough rice or sometimes too much rice and not enough meat or sauce. Leave resturant disappointed every time.

It's been messing with me a lot. I can't cook and feel pretty screwed. What are decent places to eat downtown ?

I find that American buffet / all you can eat style restaurants are disappointing. They give you quantity but low quality. The best buffet deals are in Montreal, the restaurant competition in Montreal is tough. Be it buffet or sit down style restaurant, they do not survive if they do not offer good food. Americans have told me that almost every restaurant in Montreal they have eaten at had good food. Even though the Montreal buffets offer good value they seem to be dying out.

I love those American places.

All you can eat breakfast. So delicious, healthy, balanced. Pick your own portion. Pay per item or pay per weight. Not cheap but it's luxury.

Pick whatever you want and whatever portion. Maybe you're not hungry? And you just need a quick tiny bite to start your day? No problem. You eat less, pay less. I've paid $2 for breakfast before, and $11 for breakfast before. If you starved for a week and go there, you can pay $30. Key is you can eat in a customized way, and not have someone behind the counter pick out your portion size like in Toronto resturants. It's impossible for them to guess how much you want. Same thing with lunch and dinner. And if you have a random schedule? No problem, come any time. I don't see this Downtown Toronto. I did however see one place in Vancouver.

YOU GUYs need to learn to cook ...and cook well. An appreciation of quality food is important in life.

At least a few solid tasty dishes.

Many girls do not like to eat immediately before sex. But regulars will often request a meal that they have had and liked before. Generally they will nibble after sex and take a big doggie bag home. I have one direct regular (10x /yr) who has a teenaged son who loves the B-Day Cake I make his mother. The boy will encourage his mother to go and get more cake while the centrepiece fruit still remains in season.

GOOD LUCK.

There is a good Korean BBQ place just west of University on Queen. All you can eat, cook your meat and veg right at the table on a grill. Sides of rice and cold nibbles as well. 30 something a head but worth it.

I get what you mean. Lots of places like this when I lived in New York.

The only places I know of pre pandemic are Marcelo’s and Longos in the financial district where you can pick and choose what you want and they weigh it at checkout. Not sure if they are still doing this now.

They do this but only at the salad bar (at least at Longo's)

Does Longo's salad bar have a breakfast option too ?

In states, luxury breakfast, lunch and dinner options like the "Longo's Salad bar". So much variety. Pancakes, waffles, juice, toast, eggs, you name it. American style, European style, whatever.

Pick what you want and pay per weight at counter. I got opportunity to taste so much variety. It's like being on a cruise or something. Quiet, peaceful, low stress time starts at 7 AM!

Honeymoon everyday! Life feels like a vacation even if you have a job.

Not liking food options downtown Toronto.

I have not been there, but I have eaten at Gyubee on Bloor near UoT many times. No credit cards, only cash (they give a small cash discount) or a bank card. Must order pineapple to grill! My fave.I don't recommend sex after eating a such a buffet. Unless the other person is into some really gross kinky play!

I've been banned from the Chinese buffet. Bit rude about it. "It's all you can eat but not for four hour, you go now!" Why you eat sparerib, you so fat, you scare my wife, have some broccoli"

It's rough, rough I tell ya.
Not as rough as John Pinette who died at roughly 50 years old whose Chinese Buffet bit I just ripped off.

Buffet style eating is not about eating a lot. It's about trying variety and picking out things you like per a portion size you need/want. This off-the-menu style doesn't suit everyone. I've tried every single place in my neighbourhood downtown and every place sucks. Sometimes too much meat. Sometimes not enough carbs. Sometimes not enough salad. Sometimes too much of everything, and you have left over and have to throw it out. Who's going to eat left over realistically ? Gross.

Serving size is SOOOOOO wrong. I like how airplanes serve meals on board that are so perfect in size and variety, it feeds the vast majority of people on board. Very seldom are people like, Hi! Can I have another pretzel? Rarely. Pure perfection. Airplane food is my second fav kind after US-Self-Serve-Style.

I've never eaten at a place like that, but sounds perfect. Love the variety, something off-the-menu doesn't offer, and any buffets I've been to charge a lump sum which makes you feel like you have to get your money's worth, which is why I typically only go to a buffet when I'm extremely hungry.

Not many ask for seconds on a plane, the food is gross. Personally I do not eat on the plane whether it is First, Business or Coach. Its frozen food, reheated and served.

Gross or not, there's something very magical about Airplane food as it slips in and feeds me perfectly. Something about that tray size and combination of everything that brings such great satiety, I can't even explain. I bet they did a statistical analysis of stomach size and caloric density to see what can feed most people. Something, most places downtown Toronto don't understand. They serve a portion size which is...FOR 2 PEOPLE but FEEDS HALF A PERSON. Meaning low calorie food. It's like Diet food. Horrible!

What is "magical" for you is "Gross" for me. We do not have to agree or disagree because opinions differ.
If your discussion is about "size of food portions" that is a different topic for another day. Eat healthy :)

Seriously? In downtown Toronto -- anywhere in Toronto, really -- there are TONS of excellent food options.

You can get some of the best Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan food outside of South Asia; you can get excellent Chinese, Japanese and Korean food, too. There's great little hole-in-the-wall spots for Middle Eastern shawarma and Turkish kebabs, and a whole host of everything in between from the four corners of the globe.

But what you call "good food" is what you'd find at an American-style, all-you-can-eat buffet?

For fuck's sake, man, I can't help but to think you refer to "dinner time" as "tying on the feedbag".

By good food, I mean a meal that's suppose to feed you, not a low calorie version that a bodybuilder on a diet is on.

For example, I love Thai food. When I order Thai food in the States, I go for Golden Curry. It's steamed rice, Thai sauce, and a protein. Normal size and it feeds, gets the job done. So delicious.

But I tried a Thai place downtown, and it felt like Rice & Brown water with a few pieces of protein. The ratio of everything was so wrong. I paid $15 + tax and threw it out after a few bites.

No way am I going to eat plain rice with brown water called curry. No oils. Bastards!

After almost a year though, luckily I found a Vietnamese place today that makes good food. I walked by it and could smell the sizzling frying sounds so I walked in and wasn't disappointed.

I'm sure there are good places in downtown Toronto. Not just in my area. I don't wanna go far.

If you ask me, this isn't really "all you can eat" then. "All you can eat" generally refers to a flat rate and you eat as much as you want. If you going to a place where your paying by weight or item, for fuck sakes you can go into any restaurant and just pick a bunch of things of the menu. Walk into St.Lawerence Market and go nuts.
