I had exactly the same thought , bigdik, when I read it . Remembered Alien whining about his wife .....did you see the picture of her....lol....talk about a drill sargent .
I got the impression Alien and his wife were younger than 39 and 42. They seemed like a young (make that immature for him at least) couple with a young family.
