The thing is Kirk it has never stopped me. Decades ago a picnic date was my go to Third/Fourth date, usually Centre Island but a few others as well. And always with a nice bottle of white wine. It was a no fail to end up in the sack. And with several repeats. No
We don't need to have alcohol (or pot for that matter) everywhere and anywhere just because. First it was stadiums, then provincial parks, then it was movie theatres, now the drunks want parks. Enough already. How bout a break from drunkards for the people that don't drink or get stoned all the time. Just one.
You put too much trust in "adults".The thing is Kirk it has never stopped me. Decades ago a picnic date was my go to Third/Fourth date, usually Centre Island but a few others as well. And always with a nice bottle of white wine. It was a no fail to end up in the sack. And with several repeats.
Adults can handle it. Changing the culture to where social drinking is fine but idiocy isn't is the key.
Its happens now. The cops don't bust people for it. Lots of adults in the parks. You put too much trust in "adults".
Agree 100% with you, those European countries that allow alcohol in public areas have very few problems with drunks. People there don't drink in public parks to get plastered, they like to enjoy beer, wine, or schnapps with friends with lunch or snacks. As others have mentioned, many cities around the world allow the consumption of alcohol in parks. Some places in Europe, Germany for example, allow you to consume alcohol just about anywhere. When I've gone there, I never noticed problems because of it. Like here, bottles and cans have a deposit so there's always people around to pick them up which solves the litter problem. If you look at it this way, there's already laws about being drunk and disorderly. So what's the difference between going to a bar, having X number of drinks then going to a park and having X number of drinks in the park?
They've finally changed the rules for events like Taste of the Danforth. It used to be you'd have to enter a tent or cordoned off area in order to have a drink. So what you'd have is people pounding a few drinks very quickly before going out to walk around. It makes more sense to allow people to walk around with a beverage and not feel rushed to consume a few at a time.
A bridge in Germany where people gather to enjoy local wines every afternoon. And yes, they're served in glass. How civilized.
Every year the gangs launch fireworks at teach other, cops should know this. I think tonight the cops will be in force at the park.
