"Updating previous reports, Toronto Blue Jays SP A.J. Burnett (elbow) left the game against the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 21, because of soreness in his right elbow similar to that he experienced during spring training, according to the Canadian Press. He will visit arm specialist Dr. James Andrews in the next few days."

Vists to Dr. Andrews are never a good thing. This is precisely why they shouldnt have signed this guy. Some early reports are suggesting he could be done for the year, now that would suck...

...I thought it was a bad, desperate signing from the start, and I think I said as much in a post.

AJ Burnett has NEVER done anything that demonstrated he was ready to be a number 1 or solid number 2 guy in a rotation. He just doesn't eat the innings or deliver the winning percentage you need from an Ace / Stopper or number 2 guy...

Speaking about Mike Sirotka, what ever happened with that guy?

The Jays will nurse him back to health and then he will split like Al Leiter.

That reminds me of this joke I heard on the radio years ago.....

Toronto- A loving and friendly city that has the tallest free standing man made structure in the world. A city with a population of over 3 millions people, in a country where health care is covered, and people are free to keep there Nationality and also be Canadian at the same time. A first world country that invites people from other countries here to help build our land.......

But we can't seem to get rid of Al Leiter's blister.

If this is true then Fransisco (or whatever his name is) ought to be fired!!

On the spot!!

EDIT: His name is Ricciardi

He throws smoke too. 101 mph at times I heard. I'm suprised he never had more K's during his time in MLB. I guess the quality number 2 pitch is really needed these days.

...are 49 and 51, with an ERA of 3.76

He has pitched more than 200 innings twice in 8 years. He has started more than 30 games once.

He has never won more than 12 games in a season. TWELVE.

He has great stuff, as someone else said. But he is NOT a "grown up" major league pitcher. He can bring it for an inning, or for a game. And he has had some big games in the playoffs.

But he has NEVER delivered excellence...or even above average performance....for a season. NEVER.

I was stunned that he got the contract he did. And now that he has the money, my prediction is that the lack of discipline he has shown in the past around taming his motion and improving his fitness in order to avoid injury will grow even worse. Read it here first - AJ Burnett will be the size of David Wells by the end of his contract, and I am only mildly exaggerating.

Yes, it was a bad, desperate signing. Will Riccardi lose his job? Well, I think he just signed a new contract, didn't he?

I'm starting the think of Rogers and the owners of the New York Knicks in the same context...

boffo is right

structurally there is nothing wrong with his elbow, nada, this you can be certain of because they had him mri'd five ways from sunday before they signed him. its just bad luck (timing) that the scar tissue is starting to break up in his surgically repaired elbow. that said, he's just going to have to learn to pitch through the pain. if he chooses not to, he can go become a stopper somewhere, cuz he's got tremenous stuff and pretty decent control to boot. He can bring it up to 100 mph, and he can paint the corners. unfortunately, it won't be the jays that ever test him as a stopper. before we all go making snap judgements about j.p. (or just pay as i like to call him) lets see what happens at AJ's appointment with the reverred james andrews.

What a bunch of fucking clowns! Judging the guy on his 1st month? Boy oh boy the knowledge is just humming out you guys! If a year from now he was still at this point call it a bust, but to call it now? Grow up, you sound like stupid TORONTO FANS!
TERB is loaded with experts who all know better than the professionals who have been in the industry their whole lives and are entrusted by the owners to spend their money. I have no doubt that J.P. did his due diligence before signing Burnett. As well, it's not like he was the only one interested in Burnett. Almost any team would have taken him and probably paid at least close to as much as we did. I guess all the GM's are stupid.
