A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Mexico City was blocked mid-flight by U.S. authorities for having two undesirable people on board.

The airplane was approaching the U.S. border from Canada when the pilot was told they couldnt enter U.S. airspace.
The flight then turned around and went back to Amsterdam.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking, we regret to inform you that we have to return to the Netherlands because we have 2 terrorists on board. We apologize for the inconvenience and wish you a pleasant flight". :D

Airplane scare

To my knowledge the plane was on his way to Mexico, not landing in the US. After KLM was informed by the US authorities of the presence of the two "undesirable" persons on board, the airline security personnel must have put them under close surveillance, so what harm could they have caused to the US by letting the plane continue his flight to Mexico? I know all about "airspace", but it is not as if this were a bomber plane or a fighter jet. An another exemple of the US wanting to be the world policeman.
Canada did not refuse the plane to fly over his airspace.

If the US was aware of those 2 being on board, why did they wait untill they were over the US to react. In this time of space communications, there is no excuse. The plane should not even have taken off Amsterdam.

I agree with you that the plane should have never left Amsterdam, However...

You asked mentioned that the plane wasn't a fighter jet or a bomber. It was proven on Sept. 11 2001, that all you need is an airplane full of people and a terrorist that knows how to fly into a building to do destroy.

I am gald that the U.S. is being a little too secure in the air. I woud hate to see a repeat of Sept. 11.

I still think the terrorist are planning something, and I would hate to see it come from Canada, because we weren't as secure in our Sky as the U.S. are.

To my knowledge the TWIN TOWERS were not on the flight plan of 2 other airliners. But that did not matter to a handfull of murderous cowards.

The problem was that those guys in question were not part of the "European no fly list".
I am not sure as to the rest of the monitoring mechanics. I could imagine that with the amount of people flying in and out of the USA it is quiet a task.

IMHO

Of course not. Air space policies are the same as if anybody wants to come live here. If your a legit business man and want to spend money, open a business, hire people, pay taxes, buy a car and a house... we don't want you here. If your are possibly a terrorist, a crack dealer or a low down pimp recruiting girls from school yards etc... please come in. We'll even pay your rent, hire lawyers for you, pay your medical bills, let you vote,... the whole bottle of wax.

You are assuming that the Canadian authorities were informed by the US authorities that the flight was carrying 2 suspected "bad guys" before the plane entered Canadian airspace.

No I am not. Even though I am serious about my assertions... I was mostly just letting off some steam and striring the pot a little.

Mind you IF the Canadian authorites did know that there was some potential trouble makers on baord... IMNSHO it would never have stopped them from letting the plan fly over.

Next time I fly into the US, I will demand the airline to tell me the names of every passengers, then I will check them off with the US authority.

I have the inside track on Jetsgo. It closed door because there are too many terrorists in Canada. It's simply too risky to be in the airline business.

Hey people, read my post in red below the story. This was supposed to be a joke not a political discussion
I thought it was pretty funny. I hope they started passing out the free drinks in any case.
Did I read that Jetsgo may yet make another go of it?
