Depending on it's composition, it could easily have burnt up before hitting the ground.

Very true but since there was something the size of a golf ball left over and it had a dense enough composition to pierce the roof and not just disintegrate into dust and ash, my point is that if it were a meteorite and travelling at such speeds that something with that much mass and that much velocity would cause alot more damage. The pressure wave in front of a speeding meteorite would still be at least a few feet in diameter and would shred a building in its way like so much tinder.
