Gang,

I have never had a room air purifier outside of a standard household furnace air filter. I am pondering whether to get a specific one for my bedroom. I have been having problems with breathing and congestion during the night. No matter how great I feel going to bed, I always end up with problems during the night. I thought swapping out pillows and bedding would help but no change. Now I am thinking perhaps I should look at air quality.

I am looking at getting something like this.

So, before I shell out several hundred on something that may or may not work, I thought I would ask the Terb faithful for advice.

Anyone have any genuine success stories using a room air purifier. If yes, let me know your brand choice and how it helped you.

Cheers,

BD

I have tried a bunch, meaning maybe half a dozen or more, due to living with an in-law who was obsessed with clean air. The clear winner is this one:

GermGuardian 3-in-1 Air Cleaning System

https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1...kuId=94009497&ci_mcc=ci&utm_campaign=PERSONAL CARE&utm_medium=CSE&utm_source=google&utm_product=94009497

I make that recommendation based on my observations of:

- Dust removed from the air
- Odors removed and the speed at which they were removed
- Ease of maintenance, basically cleaning and filter replacement
- Noise level
- Reliability & durability

After the first one I bought two more and am very happy with them.

Good luck - KK

The best air purifier is probably the Sharp plasmacluster, the coway one I hear is quite good so that is a pretty safe choice.

Get a sleep study done to see if you have sleep apnea as it can be quite risky as you age. Strokes, heart problems, and all the other problems that come with not being properly rested in the morning. Including sexual dysfunction. So be careful and get checked out.

If you have problems breathing in the bedroom, then you might be allergic to a pillow or duvet fillers. I had this problem, so I know what I am talking about. You should consider replacing your pillows and duvets to the allergy-proof. Also, the air purifier might help you as well. My little brother has a scar on his lungs, so he needs to avoid polluted air, smoke, and a lot of things. He always stays in the room with an air purifier. Otherwise, it is hard to breathe for him. We want him to be healthy, so after trying different options, we ordered one online on Damage Control 911. We don’t regret our money spent on this one, since my brother feels fine now.

Beware is some quacks who do these sleep studies. I had a very bad and stubborn case of rhinitis and edema . The quack claimed I had sleep apnea and was going to fit me for a cpap. Big mistake! It would have killed me, as cpap is NOT recommended with respiratory infections. I took care of my edema, lost 45 lbs in excess body fluids with diuretics and have no need for cpap or any other sleep aid.

I have two. One is an electro static one that we clean once a month. No filter.

And a Dyson one combo fan for the bedroom. Filter replacement on low one a year.

Both work great. So really it's about space and convenience and cost.

I can recommend Honeywell TrueHepa air purifiers; I've used several models over the past 15 years and have had no complaints with. For me, the difference in air quality with and without is drastic. Just be sure to choose the model matched for the square footage of the room you wish to place it in.

I would give one of these a try first, before spending more money on something less tried-and-true. Replacement filters/pre-filters widely available at Canadian Tire.
