Age difference in relationships

Gone Forever

Halfway through shaving it came----
the word for a poem.
I should have scribbled it
on the mirror with a soapy finger,
or shouted it to my wife in the kitchen,
or muttered it to myself till it ran
in my head like a tune.

But now it's gone with the whiskers
down the drain. Gone forever,
like the girls I never kissed,
and the places I never visited----
the lost lives I never lived.

Don, I think I've found the solution. Why don't you just ride Jordan like Rocinante and then she'll be disabused of all her pre-conceived notions of older men!

May you forever tilt.

Dorm's Reply

Yes, I agree with Dorm. I have men and women friends who are 9 to 10 years younger than I. The age difference never appear as a problem initially as I'm a young-looking 33, and I like to kid around and be as silly as the situation allows, but eventually when I want to talk about career or investments, I find that my younger friends have no idea or interest in what I'm talking about. I would get frustrated, but then I think back to what I was thinking 10 years ago, and I realize that I can't make people understand things they haven't been through yet, no matter what their native intelligence.

With that said, you can still date or even marry a younger woman because eventually she will catch up to you in experience if never in real age. My theory is that most people go through most of their maturation early in life. Meanwhile, you can discuss the few topics you don't share with her with friends your age.

As for what other people think, who cares. You don't live for them. Besides, most are just envious of your luck in finding a nubile babe.

Best of luck,
