I registered one time, but unless you pay by credit card for silver or gold service, they will not actually give any information. So, not wanting my SO to see that on the bill............

I've tried both Plenty of Fish and AdultFriendFinder, and I've had mixed results with both. On AFF I met one guy, who was ok, but not really what I was looking for. Plus the fact that AFF is quite pricey for what it offers, I gave up on that site. On POF, I met more guys, nothing stellar, but it has been my experience on both of these sites, as well as other sites where you hope to meet people (for whatever reason) that you must be proactive in searching for what you want - people are not going to come to you while you just sit there. Also, you have to be really on top of your email coorespondence people some people assume that if they don't hear from you in 24hrs (or sometimes less, if you have an impatient person) that you are not interested.
I haven't tried AFF but have been thinking about it. I was on POF for two weeks and sent mail out to alot of women on there and got like two replies. I have been on Lava to and no luck at all. I guess I don't write good ads. When ever I used those types of sites for dating or relationship I always get a tonne of responses. Now I'm just looking for someone to hang with. Nothing serious. So I guess I will not be trying AFF. 
That was one problem that I found with POF - lots of people looking for relationships and dating, while all I was looking for was friends and people to hang out with on a non-romantic level.
I tried the other AFF (asianfriendfinder.com) and had a lot of luck. Mind you I was in china, but I did manage to meet a few local chinese on it as well. The big advantage is that you don't have to pay to use their chat system (usually my first message is what's your MSN), but I didn't see too many locals on chat (some from TO and Montreal, which is where all the chinese in Canada are anyway). The locals girls are looking for relationships, but the ones in china are willing to get hot and heavy (you should hear my stories! One chick went to dinner, invited me back to her place, and was naked by the time her door slammed).
Aren't you sweet! I feel your pain - i'm new to Canada so I don't have things like old school friends to hang out with, and my job doesn't have the luxery of co-workers. My husband's friends are all busy with family or their own lives, and it's like pulling teeth trying to get people together for even a simple coffee. Ottawa is a hard place to meet people - a very conservative town, where everyone is already networked and established. I'm willing to be anyone's friend who wants to be mine.

Well you shouldn't expect any less!! I've been here for just over ten years and it's always been difficult. I've met all my friend's friends and people from work and as you said beaking into an established group is imposible! Now the only single one in the group I've been checking the internet out.

Check out the fourms party thread section of POF. There are get-to-gethers at various clubs(Lonestar East) around the city.
