When I tested the Acura I found that the front wheel drive took away from the drivability versus the BMW. I ended up with a 3 series BMW and loved it.

This is by far the best car I have ever owned. Forget about front will drive and torque steer. 99% of daily driving you are not drifting through corners. The quality is of this car astounds me, 270 hp, and price wise, no bmw 3 series can touch it. Plus, the DVD-audio system sounds amazing, bluetooth with my cell phone is really handy. Check out the April edition of Consumer's Reports...it's the annual auto issue with info on the TL.
Before I purchased the TL, I went to test drive both the BMW 330 and 530. The 330's price was indeed very attractive as a new model is rolling out soon. So they want to weed out the present model ASAP. Other cars I went to test drive included the G35 and Lexus ES. In the end, I ended up getting the TL with Navi Pack with tinted windows.
The TL may not look as lean as the BMWs but it's design sure is unique. And the features inside are just incredible. I love the touch screen GPS, I love how we have two sets of keyless entry remotes and the seats adjusts immediately when it recognizes which driver is going in, I love the power and I love the HID headlights! I love the look outside and inside of the car.
However, compared to my old man's Lexus LS, the suspension isn't that great. But besides that, can't complain. The TL is perhaps one of the most refined and well engineered car in the below $100,000 range. The best part is, it's half that price.

I'm not a fan of Consumer Reports for cars. They don't specialize in them and they are quite complicated machines. Car and Driver's 10 best list isn't a good way to judge dependability either. However, Car and Driver's long term tests are very good at giving you an idea of how a car holds up over 50,000 miles. Mercedes and BMW's, and Volkswagens usually don't fare well. The new Bettle left them stranded and had to be towed. Their first car in ten years, or so.BiggieE said:
Toyota's do extremely well. They had a 4 Runner that only needed it's wiper blades changed other than the routine oil change. They kept a Lexus for 100,000 and it held up great except for the leather on the driver's side bolster. American cars do surprisingly well too.
Mercedes has been trying very hard to improve dependability. They've dropped their complicated brake assist for a more simpler one, and they've eliminated over 300 computer options on some cars. However, problems still persist. The new 300M, which is the last 300E platform still has a tracking problem in some cars that they just can't get rid of.
oh god. I didn't know mercedes had that much problems. Does the C class mercedes have same mechanical problems as you guys mentioned. I think I will choose only Japanese brand like toyota avalon 2005, TL or honda accord 2005 or lexus GS300. BMW looks nice in the show room but it seems to have poor reliability compare to japanese brands.
The good thing about Consumer Reports is they accept no advertising. If you're looking for the lowdown on a cars reliability, there's no place better to look. CR does massive owner surveys along with checking manufacturuers warranty records before they assign a rating. While the auto magazines are good for performance testing, CR tells you what it's like to live with the car every day.....So it'll go 0-60 in 5 seconds.....if it spends more time in the shop thatn in your garage, is it really a very good car?.....
My brother has one on order, he's the type that does alot of homework before he buys anything... 
You cannot go wrong with the TL. I agree that it is not the sexiest of vehicles if you are comparing to BMW or Benz, but for total value how can you argue?
I have owned a 2000, 2002 S-Type and just picked up a 2005 about a month ago. The features it has are amazing, I agree with the thoughts on the DVD Navi system, the sound is awesome. More than enough horsepower to have fun with and all for less than $50K.
If I lived in Europe where they are lots of winding roads then I would put up the cash for a BMW 330 IX, but most of my driving is straight highway. The front wheel drive is never really an issue.

I think the TL looks totally amazing compared to a 3. But does lag behind a 5. But then, who wants a 3.0 L in a 5 body? One has to opt for the 545 but then that is almost the price of 2 TLs ...
The Acura TL is quit a car, evidently it sells better than the BMW 3 series. The BMW 3 series seems to be in for quit a bit of competition, the new 2006 is300 from Lexus looks like it is going to be very popular. (looks like a Mazda 3, but longer wider and has an ass.)
