A though about drinking and driving this Christmas...

Well, the holidays are upon us, and with all the celebrating over the next couple weeks I'd like to share some thoughts with my friends about drinking and driving.

The other night I was out with some friends and had, well shall we say, a few. Although I was nicely relaxed, I still had the common sense to know I was a bit over the limit. So I did something I've never done before ... I took a taxi home.

Sure enough, along the way there was a RIDE roadblock. Since I was in a taxi, they waved me past and I arrived home safely without incident.

This was something of a surprise to me, since I'd never driven a taxi before. I don't know where I got it, and now that it's in my driveway I don't know what to do with it.

So if any of you want to borrow it, give me a call.

Merry Christmas, and be safe out there ... ;-)

LOL!!!

A man goes to a party and has too much to drink. His friends plead with him to let them take him home. He says no -- he only lives a mile away.About five blocks from party, the police pull him over for weaving and ask him to get out of the car and walk the line. Just as he starts, the police radio blares out a notice of a robbery taking place in their area. The police tell the drunk party animal to stay put, they will be right back and they hop a fence and run down the street to the robbery. The guy waits and waits and finally decides to drive home. When he gets there, he tells his wife he is going to bed, and to tell anyone who might come looking for him that he has the flu and has been in bed all day.A few hours later the police knock on the door. They ask if Mr. SMITH is there and his wife says yes. They ask to see him and she replies that he is in bed with the flu and has been so all day.The police have his driver's license. They ask to see his car and she asks why. They insist on seeing his car, so she takes them to the garage and opens the door where they find their police car, with the lights still flashing.

I could probably right a book as why not to drink & drive. Some of the highlights would be... Your best friends dad still holds a grudge till this day about the his three week old vette his son & you wrote off. A few hundred people from a bar wanted to lynch us after we did some donuts in the parking lot,hit the hydro pole & knocked the power out to the whole establishment. Drove a jeep down the beach to a big bonfire for graduation & hit a small culvert didn't know was there & ejected everyone. Hit a small palm tree on the west coast with some new found friends & thought it was cool leaving it hang ten feet out of the trunk on the way to another bar, got pulled over by a cop & he had no sense of humour about it! Last one I can remember is coming home from a bush party & taking some country road & falling asleep at the wheel, woke up in the morning with a farmer tapping me on the shoulder & looked like I was in the texas chainsaw massacre with all the blood on my face. So after loosing four friends to drinking involved deaths & some of the stupid things above i'm very happy to call a cab these days & look back & say wtf was I thinkin.

If you even think you had too much, you probably have. Take a cab & don't be a STATISTIC

I have a couple of questions.

How does a person who is drunk, going to make a correct decision regarding driving home,...???

And, just what constitutes "drinking", I have a class of wine or a beer with a meal, and always drive home,...so is anything more than that considered "drinking",...???

Should be easy to make the correct decision before the next drink.

If I'm planning to drink enough to be intoxicated, I don't drive in the first place. If I drove in the first place I don't get intoxicated. I've never found this difficult.

If someone gets drunk and kills themselves then too bad for your stupidity. My problem is that more often than not, the drunk jackass kills some innocent person or persons just out for a casual drive. Just look at the facts of the Marco Muzzo case - three innocent kids dead along with the grandfather. Just not worth it so take a cab.

So you plan on getting drunk,...BEFORE you go out,...???

What you don't understand,...nothing new,...a lot of drunk drivers had not planned on getting drunk like you,...but by the time they are drunk,...they are not in a position to make sober decisions.

You missed the logic,... AGAIN.

Yes. And if I have my car with me I plan on NOT getting drunk.

If you have your car with you and you get drunk WTF were you actually thinking?
Like FAST said, when some people get drunk, they can't think properly so they end up driving. That's the problem!

Give up,...Fuji has a problem with simple logic,...or any level of logic, for that matter.

But you knew you had your car BEFORE you got drunk.
You do realize alcohol impairs ones judgement, right? Then why is it so hard for you to realize that some people make poor decisions after they've consumed alcohol? As in, they intended on having only one or two drinks. Which lead to four or five. Their judgement is then impaired, they think they can drive, so they do.

I'm not saying it's an excuse, but it's what happens. Like what someone I heard say once. "I'd never think twice about driving drunk, when I'm sober."

Last night I was in a Uber going home and there was a car flipped over on the wall hanging. Ive never seen anything like it before.

Its not just drinking and driving. Yes its illegal and dangerous.
Dont text and drive a lady while driving to her. I dont know how many times I panic over this.

Drive sober. Leave the phone down its not important to text and drive.

I hope everyone enjoys their Christmas this year and drive safe.

Your judgment wasn't impaired when you decided to drive to the venue. Your judgment wasn't impaired when you decided to drink. You KNEW your car was outside when you ordered the second drink.

I'm with fuji on this one. There is no excuse. If you are an adult then you are a one hundred percent responsible fo your actions. And that includes your choices to drink.

If you have your car with you don't. Drink non alcoholic drinks. Know the limit. One glass of wine with dinner? Fine unless you are a lightweight.

But if you can't understand that the initial decision to drink is made while sober and that all problems from alcohol stem that initial decision too bad. Because they do.

Simple is right. If you have the car, it's your adult responsibility not to drink. Period. There is now never should be a pass for impairment. I don't care if your judgment is off while drunk. You are choosing to get drunk. Anything less and you are not an adult. You are a child. And should not have the privilege of a driver's license.

I'll ask the same question again,...which was never answered,...just what the hell constitutes "drinking",...???

And I have to disagree with you on the,..."You are choosing to get drunk",...that is not what happens with a lot of drunk drivers,...starts out with a glass of wine or a beer,...then escalates,...ok,...just one more,...do you call a cab now,...or is the ability to make a responsible decession already long gone,...???

It wasn't answered because it's obvious.

Putting any amount of alcohol into your body is drinking. It's just a matter of how much and is it enough to impair you. Which is what RIDE is for.
