A Quiet Computer

In the laboratory.
For a few years(!) now, I've been thinking about the replacement for my current Pentium II. I don't want a noisy behemoth. At the same time, I don't want one of the mini ITX's. From what I've read, they're kinda limited.

Recently I came across this site giving information on silent computer parts. Good performance AND the sounds of silence? Almost seems like a dream come true.

Any comments?

I suspected there were suppliers closer to home. However, I thought the website I cited was pretty good in giving info on the parts for a quiet pc.

I was more wondering if there are any pitfalls to be avoided in going for a quiet pc or parts that just don't perform up to scratch and that should be avoided.

I run a silent PC (no fans except for the power supply). It is pretty easy.... though you do make some tradeoffs. Personally, I think CPU power is overrated and by looking a little lower, you can get an amazing *silent* machine together.

My computer runs my whole house... including being my DVD player, music server, lights, heating, etc. Given that... I do not need 11 fans blowing all the time...

Get a laptop! My fan (on Toshiba protege) hardly ever comes on.

It's not a screamer, operating at only 933 mhz, but it's never let me down, and doesn't scorch my legs when I use it in bed.

Why don't you just get a kick ass sound system and hook it up to your PC? That's what I do and I can't hear mine.
Seven:

I play non-kick-ass classical music. I like my von Biber, Telemann, etc., minus any computer hum.

I have Toshiba Notebook for less then 1800.00, purchase in Aug. 2003 brand new from Compusmart.

It's a 2GHz 512 Ram, 40GHD, NIC, MODEM, USD ports and a CDRW/DVD combo drive. I use all day at work and at home.

New makes a sound and does not overheat. Amazing PC and IMO worth the money.

So your real problem is that you like crummy music.
Every sarcastic comment has a bit of truth to it. I'd be willing to bet you are at least not a fan of classical music if not lean more toward actually disliking it. Fess up.

p.s. I don't like classical music either, but at least I have more class.

Wow you like to go out on the limb, dontcha? Okay, I give up, you got me. I actually meant what I said and I think classical music is crummy. :-( It seems I can't fool you.

I'm sure you do have more class than me. LOL. Like that is something to brag about though.
