If anyone here wants to see why I consider Luther Vandross the GOAT, listen to this live performance of "A House Is Not a Home". This is pure God given talent, you don't teach this. Dionne's version is great but Luther's is otherworldly.

I will never get tired of listening to music like this. Nile's guitar licks are just sublime.

My favorite Total song. From their debut LP in 1995. Biggie with the rap

"My rap lines is like land mines
One step Kaboom! black suits fill the room"

"Can't You See"

Of course it samples the one and only James Brown's "The Payback"

One of the most badass tracks in music history. Remember when Lennox Lewis entered to this music in his rematch with Hasim Rahman?

Then proceeded to right hook him into La La Land.

Here's a 3 song set from the group Cameo. Founded in the mid 70's they had their most successful stretch in the mid 80's with the albums 'Single Life' and 'Word Up'. They were fronted by group founder, drummer and producer, Larry Blackmon.

"Single Life" (1985). Check out that hightop. So classic.

"Freaky Dancin" (1981). From the LP 'Knights of the Sound Table'

'Rigor Mortis' (1977). In my opinion their funkiest jam and my favorite. That bassline is cold.

"Mama Never Told Me" was big at The Limelight disco in Montreal back in the day. But sped up to a slightly faster BPM rate.

The Limelight had probably the best disco DJ in Canada, Robert Ouimet.

A gay & straight crowd,. The music and sound system was the best in Montreal, and better than any disco I went to in NYC, eg. Studio 54 (after the celebs stopped going), The Tunnel, and The Limelight (not affiliated with the one in Montreal).

Whenever I was leaving The Limelight in Montreal after a disco evening everything sounded strangely muted. That was due to my ears "clamping" to protect themselves from the extreme decibels emanating from the giant speaker system and multiple Crown DC-300 amps that powered them. Probably that, apart from me playing my guitars through a 100 watt Marshall amp in my basement with the volume on "8", is the reason why a month ago I decided I needed to get hearing aids.

"Find My Way" was also huge in the clubs, and was their first club hit. Has a bit of a gay feel, not really a typical Cameo song.

This one is my Cameo favourite...

Good morning peeps. We are semi officially past summer and now back to reality. Less golf games on the horizon and more work for me. I'm going to start posting my top 5 favorites from selected artists I cherish the most. First up is my ATF r&b/soul group, After 7. Probably posted most of these in the past so excuse the redundancy.

5. "Gonna Love You Right" (1994). From the Sugar Hill soundtrack.

4. "Nights Like This" (1991). From The Five Heartbeats soundtrack.

3. "One Night" (1989). From the debut self titled LP.

2. "Ready or Not" (1989). Same LP as One Night. This was their first song to hit #1 and is widely regarded as their signature.

Next post will be my #1 and an honourable mention.

Before we get to my favorite After 7 song I need to post an honourable mention. I so want to squeeze this into my top 5 but I just can't.

"What U R 2 Me" (1995). From the LP 'Reflections'. Written and produced by Jon B.

And finally my unquestionable #1. Kevon's vocals are just on another planet here.

1. "Truly Something Special". From the LP 'Takin' My Time' (1992)

Woke up early this morning 6:20 am. Maybe not early for some but for this semi night owl that's early. Made coffee and listened to the full debut album from Avant - 'My Thoughts'. Released in 2000. This album was one of my goto's for those romantic interludes.
Nary a skip, its powered by the opening track "Separated" which is sort of anthemic. But the beauty of this album is in its core

Track #7 "I Wanna Know". This one is my favorite.

Track #8 "Serious"

Track #9 "Destiny"

Female R&B groups/duos owned the 90's. En Vogue. SWV. TLC. Total. 702. Zhane. Xscape. Brownstone. Jade etc. And then this duo - Changing Faces. Their most successful singles were "Stroke You Up" and "G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T.". The latter being produced by R. Kelly. My favorite cut from them was "I Got Somebody Else" which I'm sure I posted previously. But this was a jammer too. Samples "I Get Lifted" by George McCrae.

"Movin' On"

Gotta rep Toronto born and raised Deborah Cox. Loved her music. She was just in concert last week at Casa Loma, I didn't even know they hosted concerts there.

One of my favorite jams from her "It's Over Now". This is the remixed version featuring rap vocals by Dyme.
