I'm pretty sure I've posted this before but worth another mention. Here is the sample RZA used for Bring the Pain. One of my favorite Ice Man songs. Sample kicks in at the 3 minute mark.

Irish R&B singer Laura Izibor's big hit was "From My Heart to Yours" but she had a few really good tunes. This was one of them. Definitely underappreciated.

Nice chill hip hop from the 2000's. Blu & Exile dropped their debut LP 'Below the Heavens' in 2007. I dig the usage of the strings in the production. The vocal samples of M.O.P. and Common were dope too.

Salute the Sample is my favorite show on LL Cool J's Rock the Bells radio on Sirius/XM. This one explained a lot for me

I always thought that Jennifer Lopez's "Get Right" didn't give sample credit to Maceo & the Macks "Soul Power '74". But they didn't sample it directly, they sampled a song by Usher that sampled it.

So here's the original from Maceo & the Macks. Produced by James Brown.

Rich Harrison produced Usher's "Ride" in 2004 but it was left off his Confessions LP for some reason.

So instead he took the beat and used it on Jennifer Lopez's hit "Get Right" the next year.

In the music industry, does the original artist get a cut from this? I'm assuming they don't because it would become really hard to track samples of samples? If someone came along and sampled that portion of Lopez's song, it would become a sample, of a sample, of the original sample lol
I'd be lying if I knew exactly how it works but these days you need to get sample clearance or risk being sued. Back in the 80's and 90's that didn't happen as much. If it did the Estate of James Brown would be significantly wealthier.
In this instance it was the same producer who likely had the rights to the music. Rich Harrison created the track for Usher and it wasn't commercially released. So he ended up using the same production for Jennifer Lopez.
