This is Chante Moore Live at the Apollo in 1993. She owns this stage. Talented and beautiful.

Freda Payne was a looker, wow. I didn't know that she was also married to singer Gregory Abbott. She was 34 and he was only 22 when they married in 1976. This was her big hit and its a glorious song, Band of Gold, released in 1970.

Gregory Abbott went on to have a hit song of his own, in 1986

Stephanie Mills and Teddy Pendergrass did a couple of duets together in the early 80's. Great chemistry and two powerful voices

I'm pretty sure I first heard this on a disco 8 track my parents had in the car. What I find quite amazing that the singer, Dan Hartman, was the writer and lead vocalist for the song "Free Ride" by the Edgar Winter Group. Quite a divergence to disco

"Instant Replay" (1978)

Fast forward a few years to the Streets of Fire soundtrack. Dan gave us this gem.

"I Can Dream About You"

On a side note that movie had a pretty stellar cast - Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe, Amy Madigan, Rick Moranis, Bill Paxton, Robert Townsend, Mykelti Williamson, Ed Begley Jr.....

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are releasing a new album. Both are in their 50's. Real hip hop lives to see another day.

The beat sample is none other than Schoolly D's "Saturday Night" released in 1986.

Just listened to The Renaissance LP start to finish last night. I consider this to be the last great hip hop album produced. It was released in 2008 by Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. Yes since then (over 16 years ago) hip hop has descended into at best, mediocrity, and at worst, complete trash. And don't give me this Kendrick Lamar one of the best MC's of all time crap. That dude is a poser.

Billboard and Vibe Magazine in honor of hip hop's 50th anniversary in 2023 came out with their list of the 50 best MC's of all time.

Its an abomination. They listed Kendrick Lamar #2, Drake #8 and Nicki Minaj #10. Meanwhile the GOAT Rakim was listed at #13 and the smoothest brother ever, Big Daddy Kane, was #20. Kool G. Rap didn't even make the list. I have him #6 all time. Blasphemous.
I'll let you be the judge here. Here's a Kendrick Lamar track from his heralded LP 'To Pimp a Butterfly' and a Big Daddy Kane track from 1989's 'Its a Big Daddy Thing' when he was at the top of his game. Compare and contrast.

"King Kunta" by Kendrick Lamar

"Mortal Kombat" by Big Daddy Kane

Kane eats Kendrick's breakfast, lunch and dinner.
