Sam and Dave Soul Man. Huge props to the band, especially the bass player. 5 straight minutes of a very busy bass line without any break. Great finger stamina!
Here's my favourite version of a song that might be cancelled now. Simmers all the way through, but comes to a full boil at the end.
Saw her years ago at the Club Bluenote on Yonge st. years ago, she came on stage wearing a light lavender dress but by the time she finished, her dress was dark purple. Great singer, my favourite AT LAST.
Sharon Jones was amazing! Sadly died too young from pancreatic cancer several years ago. She was a corrections officer at Rikers Island in New York, and then an armored truck guard for Wells Fargo. Later she was a back-up singer for Lee Fields.
Finally the Dap-Tone label recognized she could be a great lead vocalist, and she did some excellent singles and albums for them. I bought them all...
