inspired by this?

No Bar Mitzvah party in the 50's was complete without it as a line dance!
Haha somehow I don't think so. That mumble rap version is horrible.

If I've learned anything about you on this thread over the years you just summed it up in a nut shell.

Re-watched "Children Of A Lesser God" tonight. From the soundtrack:

That soundtrack also featured The Pointer Sisters, Otis Redding and The Staple Singers.

Haven't heard Montell in a minute

"I Like" feat. Slick Rick

One of many r&b and hip hop tunes that sampled this George McRae/KC & the Sunshine Band classic

I haven't really discussed this album before. The Score by the Fugees, released in 1996. That time in hip hop was dominated by NYC street beats (boom bap) combined with the rise of southern hip hop from Atlanta and New Orleans. The Score stood out as its own unique sound lending to its branding of an 'alternative' hip hop release. The music was a fusion of hip hop, reggae and soul. Super creative and well received critically. Its achieved 7x platinum status and really has received sort of a cult following over the years. Its aged like a fine vintage.

Fugees were comprised of Haitian born MC's Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel as well as NJ born singer/MC Lauryn Hill. John Forte was an associate and producer. The album's main tracks were 'Killing Me Softly', 'Ready or Not' and 'Fugee La La'. But for me the title track is where it's at. A brilliant composition that incorporates an obscure sample of Cymande's "Dove" as its main instrumental courtesy of producer Diamond D. Also Lauryn displays her rhyme skills, ripping off an epic verse.
