Actually Eddie it was this guy........and then Chubby Checker covered it and became a monster hit
Yes, Wasnt sure about that. And Chubby Checkers really made the Twist so famous. Even I tried it but wasn't very good at it. LOL.

Juicy Fruit
Of course infamously sampled by Notorious B.I.G. on 'Juicy'

Sugar Free
Rapper AZ sampled this on 'Sugar Hill'

Mtume also penned many songs for artists like Phillis Hyman, Teddy Pendergrass and Roberta Flack. In 1980 he wrote and produced this top 10 hit for Stephanie Mills

Another Mtume production. I love this tune. Phyllis Hyman had a great voice but a tragic back story.

A classic from 1989. Damn I played this song so much in high school. There were some tight remixes of this too.

Nostalgic. This was the very first CD I ever owned. 1990.

Then Steve 'Silk' Hurley housed it up on this 🔥 remix

Keyshia Cole came on the R&B scene around 2005. I really dug her sound, it was definitely reminiscent of Mary J. Blige. This track dropped in 2007 from her 2nd album

Beautiful stuff ogibowt. I was just discussing Dionne Warwick with a music pal on Twitter today. She gets too overlooked. What a voice!

Not my usual post, but kinda catchy...

The sound is definitely reminiscent of a lot of todays production. Bass heavy with an eerie sound. Sorta like this (although this came out in 2014). I love this track tho

Gone For the Winter - Fabolous feat. Velous

Same sample as Nas' Represent which is came out in 1994.

The sample is taken from track no. 4 'Thief of Baghdad' from Lee Erwin's Sound of Silents soundtrack. You'll hear it at 12:46 of this video.
Simply genius on behalf of DJ Premier, the best producer in hip hop history. I'll have a series of posts on him in the future.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite hip hop joints of the 2000's. The 2nd verse by Redman is next level shit 🔥. And of course the infamous hook king Nate Dogg (RIP)

R&B remixes were massive in the 90's. This is right up there with my favorites

Tell Me (6 Karat Hip Hop Mix) - Groove Theory feat. Brand Nubian

Not only did Brand Nubian guest vocal on the cut they provided the sample

Without James Brown and his crew (Fred Wesley & the JB's/Maceo&the Macks,Bobby Byrd,Lyn Collins) I don't know what hip hop would have sounded like. They've been documented as being sampled a total of 7,413 times.

Sampled on two monster hip hop joints
1. They Want EFX - Das EFX

2. Funky Technician - Lord Finesse

Kick, Push by Lupe Fiasco is one of my ATF hip hop tracks. Pretty rare for me to have a 2006 song as one of my favorites since I am very partial to the 80's and 90's era when it comes to my rap/hip hop preferences.
The crazy thing about this song is the sample it used. It took the opening instrumental of Bolero Medley from Filipino singer Celeste Legaspi. Gotta be one of the more obscure samples I've ever seen used in hip hop. Kudos to the producer - Soundtrakk.
