Rick James no doubt had his problems in life, but damn this dude was a super talented musician back in the day. His 1981 album Street Songs is such a classic. 'Give It To Me Baby', 'Super Freak' may have been the smash hits but this one shouldn't get overlooked.

I really think that George Benson was underrated for his singing ability. No doubt he was a world class jazz guitarist, but brother could hold a note vocally. 'Give Me The Night' was released in 1980 and he brought the heavyweights out for it. Written by Rod Temperton (from Heatwave), produced by Quincy Jones and featured backup vocalists Patti Austin and Jocelyn Brown and Herbie Hancock on the electric piano.

I still think his song Breezing was one of the best jazz instrumental recordings ever.

I'm not a fan of much of the new music that has come out in recent years. But every once in a while a gem comes along. The new H.E.R. album is creating quite a buzz. I haven't listened to it all yet but this joint is 🔥

Yesterday, June 25, was the 25th anniversary of the release of Jay-Z's debut album Reasonable Doubt. I hold this album in high regard. Its definitely in my top 20 hip hop records of all time. Jay-Z was never quite able to replicate that greatness, although he did come close with the Black Album in 2003. These are a couple of my favorite tracks on Reasonable Doubt
