Little Walter, Chicago's great blues harp player. The guitarist is the great Hound Dog Taylor. I saw him in concert in the 1970's and still think he was one of the greats.

Triggered a whole new genre of soul/r&b music.

Been listening to some late 80's early 90's hip hop this Sunday morning. First up Nice and Smooth from their debut self title album released in 1989

Greg Nice hip hop quotable "Stick up kids is bout to tax". Sampled by DJ Premier on this epic Gang Starr track from 1991

And the infamous sample on 'Funky For You' is of course the Honeydrippers 'Impeach The President' circa 1973. One of the funkiest tracks laid on wax!

Chill Rob G will be forever known for his version of "The Power' but this is his best track in my opinion. That horn sample is infectious. His 1989 album Ride The Rhythm is a hidden gem

One of the things I really enjoyed about early 90's hip hop was the jazz fusion. Like peanut butter and jam. This joint is one of my favorites.

Late 80's Philly hip hop was so on point.

The sample used in Funky Dividends is from one of my ATF songs. 'Oh Honey' by the British soul group Delegation. When I listen to this everything is right in the world

Let's do 1 more Nice and Smooth joint. From their 1991 album Ain't a Damn Thing Changed.

Which of course samples Tracy Chapman's 1988 hit song 'Fast Car'

Late 80's also mixed two genres of hip hop and house music. The result was Hip House, a short lived craze but spawned some dope ass tracks like this one

For me the King of the Hip House genre was Chicago producer/DJ Fast Eddie. He also incorporated elements of Acid House into his music which just put it over the top. Here's a couple of joints
