This is one of the first songs that got me into loving hip hop. It was on a breakdance compilation tape I bought with my birthday money back in 1983. Yes I was into breakin' in my grade school days :)

This tune dropped in 1981 as part of the post disco era. Big time NYC club track.

The bassline from that record was famously sampled by Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel n their 1983 hit "White Lines (Don't Do It)". One of the greatest hip hop songs of all time.

Fast forward 16 years later we have Mobb Deep's 'Quiet Storm'. Producer Havoc took the bass line from White Lines and slowed the tempo and came up with this, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest beats in hip hop history

One of my favourites from 1962, Nathaniel Mayer and The Fabulous Twilights - "Village Of Love"

this one is new to me.....starts out sounding like What Kind Of Fool by the Tams...but then goes in another direction.....good tune
