On a beach in Negril when one of the local beach singers came over and played, as most of them do, a Bob Marley song. I asked him to play this one. He did, got my drift and led me up the beach to someone who supplied me with my vacation stash.

Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. Best Reggae music ever.

early R&B,,,song covered by many artists including Elvis
Now that's going way back. 1952. I like it. Never heard the Elvis version I'll look it up.

Curtis Mayfield got his start with the Impressions. That I knew. What I didn't know is that Jerry Butler was in the group in their early days. This was their first hit circa 1958. Sort of sounds like a blueprint for Unchained Melody doesn't it?

In 1963 the Impressions scored their first #1 hit with 'It's Alright'. The next year they released 'People Get Ready' and that went to #3. For me those are their two most recognizable songs. But they put out a ton of stuff and this gem from 1968 has caught my listening ear. It also reached #3 on the r&b charts. 'Fool For You'

I'm much more familiar with Curtis Mayfield's solo discography. He released his first solo album in 1970 and it contained this beauty which oddly enough didn't chart at all.
'Move On Up'

I have to give some credit to Kanye West and producer Just Blaze for putting me onto that Move On Up track. They sampled it so fabulously on Kanye's 'Touch The Sky' in 2006

The guest rapper on Kanye's Touch The Sky was Lupe Fiasco. He was big mid 2000's and dropped a very good album called Food & Liquor. Dude has great flow and this song of his is one of my favorite 21st century hip hop songs 'Kick Push'

Man o man this song is so damn cool.........but truth be told i never knew this was the original...........a teen heart throb pop singer Brian Hyland covered this tune and when i heard it as a teen i had to admit to myself that it was a good tune and BH did a pretty good job with it.....years later i discovered the original and i thought to myself ya there was something great about this tune and then i knew why

Definitely one of their greatest hits. But to be honest it kinda left me wanting more. It didn't hit a crescendo for me which I was waiting for. Still a cool mid tempo track.
