Damn I just learned something new today. Always thought the original recording of this song was done by Marlena Shaw in 1969. 5th Dimension recorded it one year earlier.

This was the actual original recording of 'California Soul'. circa 1966

Of the three I still think I like Marlena's version the best.

A very important track in the history of Black music. Was a main catalyst for the disco era. 1975's 'The Hustle' by Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony. One of my ATF songs, its nothing short of EPIC.
