Those two aforementioned songs were the main samples to this De La Soul gem 'A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays'. Exceptional production from Prince Paul.

In my opinion Stephanie Mills didn't get the respect she deserved. She had a string of hits from the late 70's to the late 80's. This one was my favorite it reached #1 on R&B singles chart in 1987

This was Stephanie's first big hit, from 1979. Produced by James Mtume.

Note the Mad Lads sample, also the whistle from Dock Of The Bay, and the Steely Dan "Peg" sample...
Great track from their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising. Did not know about that Mad Lads sample thanks so much Of course I knew about Peg, this was the song that introduced me to that gem. Gotta give credit to producer Prince Paul for some amazing sampling.

More "Daisy Age" hip hop:

Dope track from their EP All Souled Out. Here's another one from that EP 'Mecca and the Soul Brother'. Which of course was the title of their debut album the following year.

Pete Rock of course is one of the finest hip hop producers of all time. His signature is to incorporate horns into his productions. He's also the cousin of the late Heavy D and that's who gave him his start in the industry. He and his partner C.L. Smooth only released two studio albums together before parting. Pete went to go on and produce songs for several hip hop artists including Nas, Rakim, Run DMC, AZ and Ghostface Killah. He also created remixes of existing songs which, in my opinion, exceeded the original. Here's an example of some

Shut Em Down- Public Enemy

Jump Around - House of Pain

Can't Stop the Prophet - Jeru the Damaja

One of Pete Rock's finest moments of productions was track #4 on Nas' debut album Illmatic. Many consider this to be the best hip hop album of all time.

The World is Yours- Nas
