Green Book was on Crave last night, I watched it for the third time. It gets better with each viewing. Marhershala Ali did the impossible, lip syncing is relatively easy - finger syncing is hard. Don Shirley's is a sad tale, had he broke through in the classical world a decade later he would have been a sensation.

26 years ago today one of, if not the, greatest hip hop album of all time was released. 20 year old Queensbridge rapper Nas had made a name for himself on the streets and had dropped a legendary verse 2 years earlier on the posse cut Live At The BBQ by Main Source. His debut album Illmatic is widely regarded as the greatest hip hop album of all time due to the synergy between the lyrics and beats. It boasted a heavyweight line up of top producers such as DJ Premier, Large Professor, Q Tip and Pete Rock. The track that best exemplifies the synergy of lyrics to music is N.Y. State Of Mind, a dark hard hitting portrayal of New York street life. I never sleep cause sleep is the cousin of death.
