In 1983, a classic song was created that contained no chorus, no melody, no harmony, no bridge, no bass line, no guitars, no horns, and no singing. Just two MC's rapping over a staccato beat and record scratching. That was all it took to set the world on fire for B-Boys the world over. Truly one of a kind.

One of the greatest hip hop songs ever. My 2nd fav Run DMC song after Peter Piper.

I had the good fortune of seeing the Trammps live at The Limelight disco in Montreal in the late 70's. Disco Inferno was part of their set.

The Limelight was the premier disco in Montreal, and probably Canada as well. The famous Robert Ouimet was the primary DJ. You can find interviews with Robert on Youtube reminiscing about The Limelight back in the day. It didn't matter if you were were straight or gay, the Limelight had the best music, best sound and light systems, a mainly French crowd with its heightened fashion sense, and of course Robert as its amazing DJ. His musical taste, sense of what was right to play at the time, and creative mixing skills, were legendary.

Here is a disco/beach music hit by the Trammps - "Hold Back The Night"

And here is an extended disco version of the same song, with some performance video footage of the group:

Some Trammps very early disco. First heard it at Don Juan's in Montreal, a primarily straight & English disco on Rue Stanley just north of de Maisonneuve that was very popular around 1974 through 1980. Recorded in 1972, I did not hear it before 1974.

"Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart":
