The movie The Five Heartbeats (1991) is a fictional biopic of several Motown artists, but most notably, The Dells. They are featured on the soundtrack including this jam with Billy Valentine

I just looked up Candi's bio. She's been married six times, including once to Clarence Carter. She was also briefly married to former MLB player Otis Nixon. That dude was an ugly mofo
I really dig her voice, its so unique and soulful. I also noticed she's done a few covers of Elvis songs over the years.

Before Luther Vandross performed his magic solo, he did a couple cuts with the Italo-disco group Change. This was one of them. The other was "The Glow of Love".

While Luther Vandross goes down as my top male vocalist of all time, my top male MC of all time is the God Rakim. This is the title cut from their 2nd album, released in 1988, which is my favorite cut from him and his DJ Eric B.

James Brown aka Soul Brother #1 and his gang are undefeated. For me, without a shred of a doubt, they are the most important artists in the development of black music. They birthed the funk sound and they took rap/hip hop to the next level.

Bobby Byrd - "I Know You Got Soul"

Maceo & the Macks - "Cross the Tracks (We Better Go Back)"

The J.B.'s - "Pass the Peas"

Lyn Collins aka The Female Preacher - "Put It On the Line"
