I know I posted this trailer before but I see it's been nominated for a best documentary film Oscar.

It's a must see if you love black music. If you can't find it anywhere else the full film is available on YouTube.

So "Summer Of Soul" won the Oscar for Best Documentary film!

Who was the mystery woman who sang the best duets with Marvin? I probably should not have looked into the life of Tammi Terrell, she died from brain cancer at 24. Life can be so cruel.

he had a few duets with a singer named Kim Weston.......this is the best known one.....side bar.....Tammi Terrells death negatively affected Marvin for the rest of his life...

Tammi Terrell's life story is very sad. She was in abusive relationships with James Brown and David Ruffin (Temptations) before she sang with Marvin. Marvin was an introvert and the only man who treated her well. She collapsed into his arms at a live gig they were performing at in Virginia. She was diagnosed with brain cancer, she survived the first operation. She attended a Marvin show a year later, when Marvin noticed her he stopped in the middle of song to make contact. They sang a duet together for the last time. They never consummated their relationship, it clear from what I've read that she was the love of his life. When she passed away, Marvin fell into deep depression and a lifetime of drug abuse.

He was already moving away from Motown pop, writing his own songs. Tammi Terrell inspired his landmark album What's Goin on.
