Would appreciate some advice. When I use the MacBook Pro at home, is it better to let the battery run out and then recharge it, or keep it plugged in and unplug it when I finish ?

With PC you can and should take the battery out to make it last longer, but with the Mac the battery is built-in so it's not practical to remove it every time. Just wondering what's he best way to prolong the battery life.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Which MBP model are we talking about? For the latest unibody version I believe that Apple recommends that you use it both off and on the mains.

Ok, then, it's recommended to use it both off and on the mains (or plug it in and off) often. Apple says that the battery likes to be "exercised".

With Apple's lithium battery it won't really matter. We're talking a 5 year lifespan from optimal charging/discharging vs 4 years and 10 months if you didn't. Odds are that you'll buy a new laptop before needing to replace any Apple battery from 2009 onwards.

Wow, that's impressive. I brought a $1200 HP laptop 2 years ago and the battery lasted only about 1 year (average about 1 hr/day usage) and the battery would only be good for 30 minutes after a full charge. I should have known better by taking the battery out when I used it at home. Thanks again for all the info.
