A Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rutgers University seems to disagree with you. I think I'll roll with him on this one.
With all due respect, that's not what the two credentialed people said. One was upset this wasn't reported because now the conspiratorial types are running with it and that's making their field look bad . No one is saying they were funding specifically gain of function. They did a side experiment that showed it that was not in the initial grant, and they didn't report it. That happens in grants all the time. The problem was it wasn't reported as the grant did require that. Maybe help me find the quote that the Rutgers prof said what you're implying it was proof of sars cov -2 gain of function, as i cant find it. I am happy to be corrected.
Moreover, given the study was NOT in the grant, means the grant was not awarded for doing this work. Fauci would only know what was approved (as that is public) and reported. If it was not reported, how would he know? Because to lie, you have to know something happened and you deliberately said it did not. This memo was to say this study happened, was not in the original protocol, and they didn't report it. So unless Fauci was omnipotent and a mind reader he could not known.
