I do wonder how much the now continued support of children into their 20s and 30s changes the dynamics of this article.

I would change the following sentence “in favour of dependability and guaranteed virility”
to “in favour of lifetime annuity income generator”
None of these guys are Brad Pitt, but let’s face it, they were likely henpicked and belittled for a lifetime and grew accustomed to every dollar of every paycheck being taken by the family.
None of these guys women chasing these guys want a guy who has ever had any independence and spent some money on himself and things he might enjoy.
And we are not talking about women in the 18 to early 30s years old range who are fresh off of Disney Fantasies and want someone their own age to have babies with.

I’ve found that all the younger women I’ve been with are just not interested in being with a guy who’s financially unstable and have that hustling lifestyle always on. There’s a lot of comfort in stability and effortless living. Of course not all guys in their 50’s and older are financially and socially stable but the ones the desirable ladies are seeking tend to be.

I think that like most things in this age of social media information overload, thoughts and perceptions on this subject are likely blown out of proportion.
There have always been younger women who have found older, more established, men more alluring. I don’t think the needle has moved that much.
That said, women in general will still gravitate towards men/women of similar age when looking for romantic/life partnerships.
I would say that the confluence of gender equality and social media has made it easier for men and women to challenge the historical status quo. People are becoming increasingly focused on/pushed towards idealized extremes when the reality is that we are still beholden to the normal distribution - most of us are average and we will lead average lives with average outcomes.

Let‘s be fair. It is more difficult for guys in their 30s to be financially stable than it was for guys to do that a decade or two ago.
Second and third marriages last shorter than the typical 8-10 years. A divorced or never married woman in her 30s, especially one with children, is going to gain more benefit from locking in a man in his 50s accustomed to just turning his paycheck over to the family every pay period, as opposed to joining The Struggle with a guy in his 20s or 30s.
As I mentioned before, guys in their 50s and 60s are now expected to contribute to the continued support of children throughout their 20s like never before. I don’t know why those guys want to add another burden, but divorced guys tend to marry again, statistically. Probably a little less so among participants in a John message board, since they sought out and found a potential alternative.
