400 people have volunteered for one-way mission to Mars so far

This is some what like what was done hundred of years ago when those first intrepid explorers went to the new world. It looked to be a one way ticket, ( the flat earth people still exisit. The conditions were brutal even at the standards of the 1400's not much different than what could be expected considering our standards and what those who want to go. Could it be much worse than those who go to the north or south poles for science, who knows. There are a few trekies who could get out of their parents basements, (perhaps the parents "volunteered" them) and boldy go where no one has gone before!
If you look at it in the spectre of past explorations not many really wanted to go but who knows what might greet them, perhaps it might be like going to the north pole, but then again it could turn out to be like those on the Bounty greeted by bare chested natives, hopefully of some gender.
