I truly am at a loss for how anyone could feel that Bush won this debate. Perhaps it is because he did so poorly in the first that tonight just seems like such a drastic improvement in comparison. Kerry was calm, composed and backed up his statements with factual information, whereas "Dubya" was confrontational, arrogant, condescending and rude.
Kerry gave the impression of someone who was understanding and sensitive to the fact that there are many, many issues which Americans disagree upon, and that each have the right to have their beliefs and that he will work to finding a balance based on the Constitution.
Bush basically came across as "My way or the highway", and anyone who disagreed was stupid.
The only stupid ones are those who would give that lunatic another term as President.

It's actually the first one I watched.... Bush seemed to as nervous as his crew..... I'm not into politics but it kept my interest for the whole debate....

Many Americans seem to love fiery rhetoric and over-simplification of issues. They don't want to hear the complexities of an issue, even though it may be the most complex issue imaginable... phrase it in fuzzy, country-side sound-bytes (preferrably beginning with "I reckon") and bob's your uncle. <- note the irony.BlahBlah said:
Kerry's played a bit of that game in these debates, to his advantage and has held firm to his guns at the same time. It will be a shame if he doesn't win.
As i was watching I could tell that bush was more prepared for this one then his last.Still he looked very frustrated out there..he seemed to be taking every jab from kerry very personally. It has been mentioned that when kerry made points he tended to back them up with facts where as the president was lacking a bit in this area.i noticed this also......Bush did come off as a bit of bully, but for the most part kerry came off unflappable..which from what I could see..made the bully mad(red face, pacing, interupting, winking to god knows who.....).
The questions were excellent though I thought..they actually had some meat and substance compared to the usual soft balls they have thrown to them. I was surprised bush was an articulate as he was....points for that.

I agree that Kerry won the debate hands down, but GW stuck to his "ah shucks" routine that appeals to so many American voters. In many cases, it's not the content but the method of delivery.
In all honesty though, when I looked at their presentation, it appeared quite clear to me that Kerry LOOKED more like a president. GW looked more like a used car salesman.

As much as I dislike Bush... he was much better last night and I rate the 2nd debate a tie. Kerry crushed Bush in the first debate. This election should have been a landslide for the Democrats with the Bush incompetence and errors over the past four years. 30 days before the vote and Kerry and his handlers seem to have finally woken up… but it might be too late. If I was an American… this would be a tough vote. On the Democratic side… Kerry hasn’t shown a thing to impress me over the past year... at least up to the debates anyways.
I hope Kerry wins the election. We will then have a great experiment in play. Regardless of your tastes, Bush has been committed to a course of action. Like it or not. When Kerry gets in we will have someone who has not provided one shred of evidence as to what he will do or how he will do it. As far as I can see there are 2 candidates, Bush and anti-Bush. No suggestion of a candidate running on a positive platform with VIABLE alternatives. Very easy in this comp;ex situation to make mistakes and Bush has made many. So let's excoriate the man for them. Seems like a good idea.

The Associated Press-Ipsos poll on the presidential race is based on telephone interviews with 1,541 adults, including 1,273 registered voters and 944 likely voters, from all states except Alaska and Hawaii. The interviews were conducted Oct. 4-6 by Ipsos-Public Affairs.
Results were weighted to represent the population by demographic factors such as age, sex, region and education.
No more than one time in 20 should chance variations in the sample cause the results to vary by more than 2.5 percentage points from the answers that would be obtained if all Americans were polled. The margin of error for registered voters is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points, and the margin of error for likely voters is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
There are other sources of potential error in polls, including the wording and order of questions. Numbers below are percentages; asterisks indicate less than 1 percent.

If Kerry is elected, what i can't wait to see is how the conservatives will amazingly come up with a set of actual standards that must be met in order for a President to be considered successful. Because frankly, in the last 4 years there have been none.FalconHawk said:

IMO, the election will be decided by the swing voters. And often they don't decide until the day of the vote. So polls mean bupkiss.

Although he was alot less twitchy, and generally spoke better than in the first debate, Bush still displayed the same anger and frustration. He seems pissed at having to explain himself at all, and acts as if he resents people questioning what he evidently thinks is obvious.
