Nylander did take a discount. Marner is not a 4 million dollar better player than Nylander and Marner should not have been paid on par with Matthews who has won a Hart Trophy. Tavares was a free agent. That's the going rate for free agents. The only alternative was to not sign him. In hindsight that would have been the better option. Keep Kadri and Hyman instead. Leafs should have had only 1 player over 10 million and that was Matthews.
Marner should have been paid around 9 million his first contract. 2 mill more than Nylander and 2 mill less than Matthews. Marner is now in his prime yet he only got a 1 million dollar raise from his last contract which tells you a lot about his last contract. Draisaitl's first contract after his ELC was $8.5 mill. That should have been Marner's range.
Nylander was the second leading goal scorer last season. Behind only Draisaitl. Matthews is a Hart caliber player. Bashing Nylander and Matthews is just laughable. Sure Leafs should get rid of them and field a team of plugs. Leafs looked tremendously slow against Detroit. Roy, Joshua, and Macelli are not speed demons.
Cowen played 4th line all pre-season. Made the team but couldn't get in the starting line-up. He's in now due to injuries and will most likely play on the top line with Matthews and Knies.

Nylander never took a discount otherwise he never would've held out. He has on both contracts made slightly more than David Pasternak and he is nowhere near the player Pasta is. I agreed Marner was not worth more than $9 million at the time he signed but he did come off of a 94 point season when he did where as Willy held out after a 60 point season. Is Marner worth $4 million than Willy. No but unlike Willy he does play defense and plays on the penalty kill. The mistake with Marner's contract was Dubas not wanting to play hard ball with him like he did Nylander. The Tavares contract handcuffed them not only because of the cap but also they weren't in need of another center as much as they needed more depth on defense.

Was watching both Leafs and Jays game tonight, and as Matthews scored in OT, the Jays won the challenge, and the Seattle player was called out, both happened at the same time. Leafs and Jays win, a good night.
League leader in assists is none other than Nylander, the passing wizard.
Nylander also leads the league in points. No player has more.
Perhaps the value of Joshua is in the playoffs. Right now he just looks like a plug.

It's early in the season, but Maccelli looks like a poor man's version of Domi. The Leafs and Jays play Seattle this weekend. Last weekend wasn't great for both teams. Flip the script.
Domi is already poor so a that is a damning assessment of Maccelli.
After 5 games Domi has 0 assists and Maccelli has 1.

At that point the game was too close to go after him. The Leafs were going to the power play. That’s todays NHL.
If it smells the cup 7 games into the season, the equipment manager has to spray the jock straps with air freshener.
TB was 2nd in the Atlantic Division and got smoked in the 1st round.
Montreal is currently 2nd in the Atlantic Division.
Panthers won the Cup 3rd in the Atlantic Division.
Leafs are currently 3rd in the Atlantic Division.
Jets won the President's Trophy and got smoked in the first round.
Someone even started a thread handing them the cup after the first 15 regular season games.
Playoffs is about head to head matchups.
The one game Montreal vs Toronto this season Toronto won in regulation.
Pittsburgh has the same record as Montreal after 7 games with a better goal differential.
Perhaps the Cup should go to them.

Looks like they are going to change the start times of the Leafs games vs Buffalo, maybe even Calgary and Columbus,, due to The Jay WS games. There are a number of Jays fans in Buffalo; the Bisons play there.

They moved up the Raptors game on Friday (7pm) and the Leafs game on Saturday (5pm). Will also help (?) to spread out the traffic congestion.
