Someone should make an MLB documentary on the history of botched calls. Before all of this strike zone technology, before all of the replays and challenges, imagine how many missed calls there have been on game deciding scenarios, before we had the technology to tell us otherwise. Umpires used to give ridiculous amounts of leeway on the corners of the plate, for the dumbest reasoning. Like a reputation for his control, or how well he’s pitching today, things of this nature have been ridiculously playing a part in the umpire of giving coverage leeway on a strike zone.
Does anyone remember the final game of the 1997 World Series? Or even most of the Greg Maddux starts? Giving the outside corner a whole new meaning…..
