Actually the base price of the Stingray is 51k
Motor Trend lists a 59,000 est price.
Popular Mechanics says, Base Price: $51,995.
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Test Drive
A local Chevy dealer in Buffalo ran a Sunday newspaper ad today saying $12,000 'discount off' the 2014 Vette list price!
We all know how corps like GM, et al., like to play with the numbers, so who knows what they will sell for!.....lol
But if you can end up getting one for ~ 40K, that's a pretty sweet deal!!!...:thumb:

Saw a 1964 Impala in that mix. That thing was a boat. Huge!
Back then they were ALL boats!!!

Top of the line Olds, Buicks, Pontiacs, Caddies, Fords, Lincolns and Chrysler models were even BIGGER!!!....:eyebrows:

When does a car become an antique? A friend of a friend owns a 1969 Firebird which he stores in his garage. His everyday car is a VW.

From wiki

A classic car is an older car; the exact definition varies around the world. The Classic Car Club of America maintains that a car must be between 30 and 49 years old to be a classic, while cars between 50 and 99 fall into a pre-antique class, and cars 100 years and older fall into the Antique Class.

Between here and there.
Did you know the current BMW are designed by an American? Chris Bangle is the name. QUOTE]

Actually, Bangle hasn't been with BMW for about 4 years now. He left the German company (some might say pushed out) in February 2009 and opened his own design firm based in Turin, Italy. A Belgian, Adrian van Hooydonk took over as director of design at BMW and is still at the helm. Just for the record.

He was famous for the "bangle butt" on the 7 and 6 series. The new designs look a lot better.

True, the "Bangle Butt" and the odd creases on the Z, 5, 6, 7 series of the 2000's were a low point in BMW styling. But like it or not (I personally hated it), you have to admit it was very distinctive and also extremely influencial at the same time. Mercedes, Toyota/Lexus, Audi, Cadillac, Hyundai/Kia, Honda/Acura and others all copied either the Bangle Butt in a more diluded form or the creasing of the body panels, a hallmark of Bangle's design.

Luckily my bimmer was E46 - 2 years before the Bangled Butt came out! Pretty much the entire community of BMW owners hated the Bangled butt design, but it was no use. BMW still sold millions of them. It just goes to show the power of marketting and brain-washing. People are willing to spend years of saving just to buy a status symbol regardless of its true value or aesthetics - just sheep trying hard to impress their neighbours.

Outright pace is one thing and definitely a factor. So yes the Corvette is a fantastic deal in that sense. It's 1/2 the price of the Europe supercars for near the performance. But sit in the Vette and the equivalent Audi or Porsche or Ferrari, then drive them. You will see where the money goes. A car is more than just how fast it goes around a track. It's the sum of its engineering, build quality, features, engine, design, blah, blah, blah....Lots of bloaks can put together a home built car with a big powerful engine and minimal weight chassis that can match most supercars on a track. But it'll crude and far from the best. The Vette is of similar ilk, great on the track, but what a god awful interior, creaking fiberglass body, low build qiality, etc. The new 2014 is a great leap forward in all areas but still not on the same build quality as the best from Europe. As for price, yes the Vette is relatively cheap in NA. But in Europe it cost as much or more than the 911's, R8's etc.

Vette always had two big things going for it:

1. They hold their value and don't depreciate.
2. They have always been the ultimate babe magnet.....

Exactly, while you guys admire European cars. Europeans admire American cars. In Asia, American cars are more expansive than European cars too. Audi a6 are so common in beijing they are used mostly as taxis. If you own a buick, you are much cooler than audi or even bmw.

your shelling out so much for an audi a4 here is pathetic.

it's actually a really bad investment. i just see it as a depreciating asset although I am guilty of having a bike fetish of my own... mind you my bikes only cost 15 k at most and I get to legitimately feel young again and not look like some guy in a mid life crisis. although i gotta admit after watching iron man the r8 peaked my curiosity and i took one for a test drive.
Clearly, but for me it's not investment just a toy... never splurged on a fun car, always done the sensible thing (as sensible as a Toyota Land Cruiser is). Been looking at a muscle cars (speaking of mid-life crisis) and Porches (SO has a 85 930 red whale tail) and then the 2014 Vette announcements came out and I went hmmmmmm

Here is an early video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1nlfMTL154

The downside of buying a Singray is I could see myself buying one of every generation (C2, C3)... that would fill the garage.

I just came back from my first trip to China - Beijing & Shanghai (other than Tawian and HK) and I was surprised by a few things - how modern and non-asian the architecture is (very few buildings with the air conditioners hanging outside of each unit), how bad the air is (no cities I've been in come close), how good the food is, how many Samsung phones there are and lastly how many Audi's there are on the roads as taxis.....

exactly. Audi are not considered luxury brand in China, just another toyota really. So it's laughable guys here elevate vw with leather seats into some kind of elite status. Mostly your just paying for a brand image, status symbol when buying any luxury car.
