Ignoring the fact that I'm slightly buzzed... my buddies made me commit to picking who will win the cup in '07...

I picked Anaheim Ducks to win in 7 games over the Buffalo Sabres.
I thought I'd post it here to all you to critique and add your own input. Is it too early to tell? Hell, ya. But, seeing that most people can't pick the winner during the final 3 games of the finals, I thought, why not?...

I also think Toronto (with everyone's pick of a great coach...) and NYI (with an owner that has lost his marbles) will end the season closer than you think to eachother. I believe their point spread to be less than or equal to 6pts... And it is possible to see the Islander's make the post season. doubt it, but possible.

Ottawa will win the President's Trophy.
Pittsburgh will improve to slightly over .500 hockey.
Toronto will also improve to slightly over .500 hockey; if things go well, possible .600; if things go above expected then .700 hockey.
Tampa Bay won't make the playoffs.
Either will Montreal.

one of Nashville and Colorado won't make the playoffs in the west. Phoenix might squeek in.

now quick- someone quote my post so i don't make any changes to it when i am sober tommorrow!

sorry. scenicdrive...

but, in reality, i actually got booed outta my own house for stating that they'd make it that far. everyone's on the Sen's vs. Flames wagon - all Canadian exxxtravaganza.

one thing's for sure... Carolina can't repeat. Philly is still adjusting to the new NHL... same with NJ and NYR... Ottawa will get beat out early by someone...

I actually think i'm somewhat optimistic about Buff's chances. hey, i did mention 7 games.

I do think the EASTern Conference is much stronger than the west in general... but, I think Anaheim will simply have a 'healthier' trip to the finals. Buffalo will really need to dig deep, much like the 'canes did in 06 against the Men of Vaseline ...ahemm - Oilers.

Don't be sorry. The road to Stanley Cup is long and tracherous. Some national sports websites, such as Sporting News.com and SI.com all predicted the Sabres winning the Stanley Cup in 2007. The good doc thinks it is premature to say one way or the other. But no doubt it will be unwise to ignore 'the beast of the East' now that the sabres shed their Cinderella image.

I might just have to adjust my predictions then as I didn't know so many publications were on the bandwagon... SI and SportingNews are never correct with NHL predictions. But, either am I.

I'd be surprised if the Sabres made it. Losing McKee & Grier will hurt. Still a good team.

I like San Jose to meet the NY Rangers. SJ in 6.

Losing McKee & Grier may hurt but it is not insurmountable. They added Jaroslav Spacek, a quality replacement for McKee. They have depth in both defence and offence. They always win as a team and lose as a team. If they can replicate their success the past season, the Sabres will go far and deep, possibily winning the Stanley Cup this time.

21Pro, look for Tampa to be a more legit team this year since they got Denis in goal. But defence looks a little shakey. What happened to Modin??

My prediction .....Calgary over Ottawa

Ryan Miller has to prove he isn't a fluke.
Ryan Miller was good but not great last season. If he can be consistently great, the Sabres will be hard to beat this time around.

I'm amazed at how, even in a salary capped NHL, the NY Rangers can still land so much talent in their arena...

Toronto will shoot -7, Vancouver -2, and Montreal +2 in their first round of golf on April 9, 2007.

Edmonton over Ottawa in 6.

yes, but best bets rarely make it.

if it was best bets, i'd go with New York and Calgary.

7 games in for most teams now and are you still supporting the same teams?

My original pre season picks Anaheim and Buffalo hasn't changed. Though, Calgary and Ottawa - terb's 2 non toronto favourite teams are 4th and 3rd last place in the entire NHL respectively... they might not make the playoffs!
