Thinking about finally buying an SUV. My budget is about 10gs. Was wondering if any of you guys have a Ford Explorer or maybe the Nissan Pathfinder, Cherokee, Land Rover or any other SUV? What would you recommend?

Land rovers could be the best off road vehicle but they are one of the least reliable cars ever made. They are always on Consumer Reports car to avoid list.In almost every area that consumer reports tests the Rover is much worse than average. The Land Rover Discovery gas mileage is rated at 14.7l/100km(on high test).

I've never had any problems with my 97 Explorer, other than my gas bill. Make sure it's not manufactured in Mexico, I've heard they have more problems than the ones built in the US or Canada.

So the Explorer is a reliable truck eh? I'm thinking of purchasing a 2000 with around 150,000K on it. How much to fill up a tank?

And with the price of gas dropping to 10 cents a gallon and all the holes in the ozone having been mended now is as good a time as ever to buy an SUV.

Before you buy the Explorer check the engine that they put in it and google it for problems. Some of the Ford truck engines had head gasket problems.

Never by a domestic used, your just digging yourself in a whole. No warranty you are basically screwed. Any suv from honda or toyota should do you good, nissan still lacking behind them but better than any domestic in the reliability factor.

Owned a Pathfinder once...

...still miss it. Hell of a truck. My "taste" have gone a bit upscale since, but if I were still in that price range I would definately test drive one.
