17 year old male in a Mercedes runs over two little kids. A man was also hit. The two kids might not make it. The good news is that the 17 year old male driver of the Mercedes who drove at a high speed and lost control is fine (sarcastic).
Seen this on the news tonight. Just brutal.
I hope that kids parents beat him within an inch of his life.

Looked like a nice neighbourhood and a nice car. My bet is the parents are more interested in the coming lawsuit. They are going to be told to say the kid took the car without permission, so they are limited on liability. Will take years to settle.

Cbc is reporting that the 4 year old boy has died.

His 10 year old sister is clinging to life.

Hard to imagine the sorrow the pare to are experiencing.

Not sure, slaming sideways into the light post and being sliced in two had to dissipate quite a bit of speed as well as body parts.
It takes nowhere near 250 km/h to slice a car in two, especially if you hit a tree of pole. In addition, the Ferrari's chassis is made out of lightweight aluminum. While they must meet certain safety/crash test regulations, there is no pole side impact test per se. I suspect they were going in the range of 150 km/h.

so you're saying that our trusted TERB accident reconstruction experts are not capable of calculating vehicle speed at the time of impact by looking at a photo of a burnt car?

That's exactly what I'm saying. lol

I've spent my spent almost my entire life at racetracks and have seen countless crashes, both as a driver and spectator. Not that any of them involved poles, but I'd say I'm a pretty good judge of speed and collisions. I can say with confidence that the Ferrari was traveling nowhere near 250 km/h.

The kid who was driving the benz is now being reported as 16 and has been charged under the "youth criminal justice act"

Which means he will get off with a warning not to do it again.

There are now permanent speed cameras mounted 24/7 that will send you a nasty little fine and we don't need to put a cop there. In Hamilton, they move them about every 3 weeks because folks get used to them. The boxes also get the circuit boards beat out of them and vandalized some thing terrible in some parts of town.
So they do need cops there - to prevent people from vandalizing the speed camera...

I know, its a viscous circle isnt it, but thanks to the wonders of "insurance", the item is fixed. They added other observation devices to them now (in case you want to sneak up on it) and mounted them on poles instead of at grade, so you REALLY have to want to get at.
