I test drove a 1983 DMC-12 in mint condition & with the traditional troubling parts replaced. B.T.W. the company is revived in Humble Texas. They referbish old ones & make 24 new ones a year. They also have parts catalogue to order from. Anyone know or own one themselves to tell your experiences? Do you like the car. Just curious. Cheers.

I remember seeing a documentary on that car

Seemed like a good idea with the stainless steel body but Delorean got arrested for drugs

A sporty car for the common man that was to last for years and never rust and there was only one model ever made

50K ??

I think it would be cool to own one. The stainless steel. The gull wing doors. The exterior design still looks futuristic today.

I would put in a more powerful engine though. The original engine was very anemic.

Should one of us tell cute-bald that B.B. King is a bluesman, not a "jazz guy" ? :D

That new car is a concept. As you will read on their web site they are building 24 new cars a year that look exactly like the old one for 50k.

Bottom line is this is not a real collectable, ok body syle, under powered V6. It also has all the goofy movie and 80's feel around it. If you really like one, buy it. Consider today's price after total restore is the same as it was new, is better than most cases. However resale should be thought about. Cars are fun but usually a money pit.

Ok, got my 1983 Delorean . Pick up on Tues. In pristine shape, 10,600 miles. Will have mechanic go over & update old components. Some upgraded stuff over the years from previous owner.

Congrats Cute-Bald! (Hope that Flux capacitor is OK...) You can travel to the future, get that leg lengthening surgery (You should opt for the Mr. Fusion upgrade on the car while you're there) and then come back to TERB and quit whining about your height... or rather lack thereof...

Seriously though... You aren't... ummm.... compensating for anything are you?

Between here and there.

Agreed. As a sports or performance car, the DMC-12 is a complete failure. It had an overweight stainless steel body and an underpowered Volvo/Renault V6, with mediocre handling at best - even by '80's standard. It was a good looking car circa 1980's, but has not aged well. The angular styling and details is definitely not from the past two decades. It's an interesting enough car that people will notice because of the gullwing doors and BTTF movie/amusement park ride connection. But for $50K or even half that, there are so many better driving cars on the market. Even for a collectable, it hasn't really kept it's value. But hobby cars shouldn't be bought with investment as the prime goal, it should be for driving pleasure. So buy and enjoy.
