Being a season ticket holder for the Toronto FC games, I enjoy watching the international teams play....but the Real Madrid game is priced way too high, $250 a ticket for the game easily... now they will open a practice session for the fans to watch...but at $15 bucks a ticket! Am I the only one that considers paying money to watch a professional team practice a joke?

That is standard practise in football around the world for the large and sometimes not so large clubs. How do you think they get the millions of pounds/euro/dollars to pay the transfer fees and wages? Nickel and dime every time.

this is not a standard practice anywhere of professional football, they make their money through tv rights first and sales of merchandise second. TV is willing to pay billions for the rights to English, Italian and Spanish leagues because they know they will make that money back from advertising in places like Asia etc.

This is just another lame attempt by an overtly greedy organization MLSE linking with another dumb ass league like MLS.

It may not be standard but it does happen a lot when a small club get a mega-club to play a friendly. Don't kid yourself, this happens a lot.

it's not a joke if you're a genuine fan of the sport/team........otherwise, you're in the same category as the other "bandwagoners"

$250 for the game ? Hah. Never !
$15 to watch practice. Maybe if they paid me $15 to watch I would think about it.

After all we are talking about practice. We are talking practice. Practice? You serious, practice. Its practice. Come on practice.

Ok so I am not Allen Iverson.;)

$15 to watch them practice Thursday is a steal compared to the $200+ people paid to watch them practice Friday night. That's what it was for Real Madrid: practice. I don't say that in hindsight because of the score, I said it before the game. You think they took this game seriously at all?

If you polled the Real Madrid players today who they faced last Friday, I bet half the team couldn't tell you.

It was like watching a NHL team play a Jr. B team.RM "Toyed" eith TFC.They weren't going to go all out and risk injury to their top players.

I don't disagree with anything you say, but I would not hesitate to see them live again. It was overpriced but on the same note it was about the same as good seats to a Leafs game or to see a top band in Toronto. But more importantly than a practice game, it was an event. The way I see it as a soccer fan, how often will the individals that were voted world player of the year for the previous two years show up in Toronto? In order to see a team like Real Madrid, although I am not a fan of theirs, it would typically require a trip overseas which is at a whole different pricepoint.

Off the top, let us re-iterate that this was an Exhibition Game and from the get-go, all involved knew it was so. That negates the 'they weren't trying' aspect of some of the opinions expressed.

If for one (as many of you know) am a Dyed in Wool Blaugrana fan and could never bring myself to watch a RM game unless it was "El Clasico". Friday night was however, a Great Toronto Event.

Some people think it's crazy to pay big bucks for the Stones or Film Festival Tickets (which can be a lot more than $250.00, BTW) but that is what's important to that audience. Los Pericos (Real Madrid) has one of the biggest fan bases in the world and Toronto is a big fan base for Futbol. A lot of these folks won't be getting to Europe anytime soon so, for this time, the Mountain came to Mohammed, so to speak. It will also motivate certain fans to take a trip to Madrid, experience Europe, another language, another type of food, music, customs, people etc, etc, etc...

I know a lot of people in the Great White North don't get the allure of The Beautiful Game. We're probably the only country where "FIFA" is not an everyday word, but we're getting there. With Passion and Style, might I add.

Friday night was a very good step in that direction and, once again, a Monumental night for Toronto.

$15.00 isn't too much to pay for all that, is it?

Seeing a team of this calibre practice might be the only way some of the fans can actually see their team as the ticket costs were very high. 15.00 really isnt that much.

What people spend their money on is all up to them I suppose. I would never pay hundreds of dollars for a regular season Leaf game and people do all the time. It's up to them. So I suppose people wanting to pay a couple of hundred to see a team that will never be in town again in our lifetime is understandable.

All I know is if Barcelona came to town, I would pay that and more.

Personally it's a dream of mine to see the Superclasico live one day and if I have to save up thousands of dollars, I will.

As a Blaugranaista, "Los Blancos" is much too dignified a term for a team that was sanctioned by an egomaniac, psycopath that has left a legacy of shame, blood and pain upon his country.

Shame, shame, Shame on los del Bernabeu

That's right: Football. FOOTBALL! The name is already taken.

The game you play with your feet, not with a little makeshift rugby ball.

Talk about paint drying: One down, 3 to go, 6 to go, One sideways, Time out. yards to go. where are we going, There is no other league of this Monty Python routine anywhere else other than 2 countries in North America.

With the amount of money MLSE made on Real Madrid, you can expect to see a lot more high profile teams coming through in future years. Can you imagine if ManU came? I would guess they generated close to $4 mil in revenue through tickets, sponsorship and concessions and had to pay approximately $1.5 to 2 mil for appearance fee, grass and other costs. TFC covered their payroll for the entire year on the profit from this one game:eek: .

Next time they should consider lowering ticket prices and play at Skydome. And yes, if Arsenal came, I would pay considerably more than the $150 I paid for Real Madrid.
