Do we even have institutions for the criminally insane?
Actually I think we do. My experince was a few years old.
My grandpa had heavy 'heimers in the late 80's. He wandered too much to stay living with Grandma.
Or would stay in, start to make tea, then walk away while the old keetle on the stove top would boil dry.
I would go with my dad to visit him in the public space they had placed him in.
He lived there until he passed away after about 5 years.
Lots of gentle old lost souls looking at a silent tv, or wandering muttering.
But the other wing of this place had steel mesh covered windows, etc,
Penetang Institute for the Criminally Insane was how I recall the name at the time.
It has anew name now, but still deals with messed up folks.
