We'll probably find out something along the lines of yes he was currently being treated under the supervision of a mental health team. Like the guy in Vancouver who plowed into the festival. This is the aftermath of Covid19 lockdowns and it will only get worse. Its a powder keg ready to explode.
If you're a parent and you see your 14 year old dressed like this are you not intervening????
Same thing as Columbine, where were those parents? When the kid is wearing a full length coat wandering around that area, he should have been grabbed then. And he should be very dead now too.

I'm not sure why anyone would assume the parents were standing at the door watching him leave but if the parents were at work who is responsible?

LOL parents weren't to blame for Columbine. Read up on the kids and such. Typical conservative town and if you don't conform to their beliefs they bully you and make you feel bad. The groupies in high school with the jocks generally get a pass by the school and system even if the jocks start things up first. End of the day the kids had 1 year left of high school or so IIRC. They should have just sucked it up because life after high school generally changes. A lot of the cool kids and jocks in high school who bullied end up with shit lives. The kids should have used that anger and turned it into an art form, but life gets the better for some kids including those who even commit suicide. Their brains are still developing and not all of them can handle ignoring stuff and always walking away. I'd be putting blame on kids who triggered other kids first and if they reported it to the school and not much got done about it then the school should be blamed too. This stuff still goes on today and schools turn a blind eye.

Work or no work, they are still the parents, they are responsible to do something if their kid descends into a total fuck up. Maybe the Joe Biden model was for them, deny the obvious,... he`s razor sharp, top of his game.........while Joe stares at the wall.

How much do you want to bet it's going to come out that he has an extensive posting history on 4chan and "incel" forums?

Experts have no way of treating the severely mentally ill besides giving them medication and "therapy", whatever that's worth.

Maybe it's a "chemical imbalance" in the brain or maybe their normal brain mechanics predispose them to these behaviours.

For example, imagine thinking that we can "cure" the mentally retarded through "treatment". Their brain structures are different from "normal" people so it'll never work. No amount of therapy is going to raise the IQ of a mentally retarded individual to that of a non-retarded person.

Insane asylums were ugly but they did a good job of keeping severely ill people off the street.

Trivia: Therapist is made up of two words. Do you see them? That's what they do to your wallet.

Do we even have institutions for the criminally insane?
Actually I think we do. My experince was a few years old.
My grandpa had heavy 'heimers in the late 80's. He wandered too much to stay living with Grandma.
Or would stay in, start to make tea, then walk away while the old keetle on the stove top would boil dry.

I would go with my dad to visit him in the public space they had placed him in.
He lived there until he passed away after about 5 years.
Lots of gentle old lost souls looking at a silent tv, or wandering muttering.

But the other wing of this place had steel mesh covered windows, etc,
Penetang Institute for the Criminally Insane was how I recall the name at the time.

It has anew name now, but still deals with messed up folks.
