Nice job Mr. Depth.

1080p is the way to go esp if you are going off air and not cable or satellite

You might not like their warranty work but you can't knock their products on most cases.

Sony Bravia is a spectacular TV ....the picture quality is superb...I might have to look into this.

I can't comment about Sony's warranty issues since I've had mine for over 15 years with no issues. I bought my 32 inch trini new back in 1992 and I've never had any problems with it. I've left it on for days on end and logged countless hours watching TV and its still running perfectly.
The set just wouldn't die. The last 4 years I've been hoping it would finally die so It would give me an excuse to buy a LCD but it kept showing a great picture. I ended up giving it to my next door neighbour and getting the 1080p.

The other thing I like about Sony products besides the reliability is that their manuals and menu's are very user friendly. Everything is well written and easy to follow. A few years ago my friend bought a Panasonic 45 inch TV and the menu was very difficult to navigate. Even after a few months he still couldn't understand how to switch over from TV/DVD/game..

To me Sony products are like Honda's and Toyota's, tried tested and true.... It would be very difficult for me to pull the trigger and buy anything else

it's too bad 1080p is overkill for many different HD feeds. (sat, cable, and some HD DVDs- if not the player, the damn media)... can't win.

though, 1080p is becomming more common.... just slowly.

i saw on CNET that in 18 months there will be TV's with something the equivalent of 2160p with other image manipulations...

Shopping Channel has the Prima Cineplus47 for $1299 and you can do 9 easy pays, but i know some people are "brand" concious :)

I was watching that last night. Its pic in pic 47 inch $1299 and 40 inch for $999. It would be good for a bedroom tv but I wouldnt use it as my main living room tv.

Prices on these 1080P's have come down a lot in last six months.
These are good times if you are in the market for a new TV due to all the deflation.
Was in Costco the other day and I think I saw a Viewsonic 42" 1080 for something like 899.

I though Sony was planning on coming out with their new OLED panels (3mm thick!) soon. I figured they were going to dump the LCD Bravia's and expect the prices to drop dramatically.

Hello all, just thought I would throw my $0.02 in...I did alot of research prior to picking up my LCD and I went with the Sony Bravia 46v3000 offering full 1080p with a 13000-1 contrast...I picked it up for $1699 including all Taxes and HDMI cables and wall mount from a store in the Hwy 7 and Leslie area. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I am hoping for many years of great viewing.

whats the difference with the bravia and the xbr.
Generally speaking, XBR is the beefed up version of it's regular ( in todays' case, Bravia ) line of TV. XBR version has a slightly better specs, which in theory translates to better picture, better audio in some cases. Think of XBR as SONY's premium TV series.

Their XBR series have been around for a long time, even back when they did CRT TV's.

When I went into the SONY store looking at 1080p the guy asked me what I watch. Mostly PVR shows and movies from movie channels (Expressvu) and sports sometimes. I rarely watch regular season sports games. We rent DVD flicks maybe 4 times a year. He told me that for my usage 1080p was overkill and I should save some $$$$ by looking at the non-1080p sets.

We are now trading in our 2 non-hd PVRs to get the one HD unit that allows you to tape one show while watching another one live and drive two sets at the same time with different shows. (We have been assured that it can drive two non-HD TV's)

We still do not have an HD set as we cannot justify it for the TV that we watch. When we finally do get one the justification will probably come down to the asthetics of have a thin set replace our 4 yr old clunky Panasonic. What a shame that a perfectly good TV technology has become throw away.

I can understand how you feel about that one my friend. Have a perfectly good analogue TV here, less than 5 years old that I hate to part with so soon, but it's so big compared and takes up so much space.

Our first HD TV will replace my old university TV. That's a little 13" Electrohome that still works, but we lost the UHF on it last week and it's time to move up and get more space out of the room by mounting to the wall.

I will still wait and hold on to the big Sony as it works great and the kids just watch TVO kids with it anyway.

The HD TV I buy has to have headphone jacks so that I don't interfere with anybody else in the house while they sleep. A nice wireless set would be nice.

You guys do know that Samsung and now Sharp will be suppling panels for Sony :)
Sharp supplies the LCD screens for the Sony handheld video game system. Sony has been building LCD's with Samsung for a few years and has plans to do the same with Sharp real soon. But the fact remains that Sony IS the giant among the three and has controlling interest in all of its ventures. Panasonic (Matsushita) who is the biggest electronics supplier is planning on a $280 billion dollar plant for LCD's, diverting its attention away from plasma. And really folks, do you trust a person that recommends a Prima television.
For LCD's stick to the 3 S's Sony, Sharp, Samsung.
